Mitt Romney's campaign tells The Brody File that Bill Wichterman, who used to do conservative and religious outreach for Fred Thompson's campaign, has joined Team Romney. This is a nice "get." He'll be a part of the Faith and Values steering committee.
Bill Wichterman left the Thompson campaign because Thompson DOES NOT support the federal marriage amendment. At least the version that is on the table now. Mitt Romney does support it. Wichterman liked that fit. Who can blame him?
This is a guy who has been big on the federal marriage amendment for years. When Bill Frist was trying to push the amendment through the Senate, it was Wichterman who was leading the charge by getting social conservative groups organized and mobilized. Expect him to be a big boost for the Romney campaign when it comes to the marriage issue. His depth of knowledge here is masterful.
It's not just the marriage issue. By nabbing Wichterman, it's a sign to inside and outside the beltway social conservative groups that Romney is serious in courting them. Wichterman is very well respected by these groups and he has close contacts at places like Focus on the Family, Family Research Council, etc. When he was on the Hill, he was very active in the Senate's "Value Action Team" meetings where dozens of groups would meet once a week to go over social policy and plot strategy.

There is a comparision between same sex marriage and slavery, they are and were respectfully, immoral and demoralizing institutions for those with a conscience, notice I said “those with a conscience.” Also you overlooking my other comments about the depravity of homosexual marriage posing a security risk for this country. That’s all we need to do is provide more motivation for the terrorists that we deserve to be attacked, if you don’t believe me, then why do you think the Iranian President mentioned the topic of homosexuality during his visit to the University? There is a reason for it, you better believe it is. I bet you anything that is part of the rhetoric used to recruit terrorists, that we are all a bunch of sodomites. The Federal Government should very definatly get involved in the issue because it is tied to national security.
Same sex marriage would also cause an interstate disaster too for those states for it and those states against it. Plus it is an issue of common decency. I can’t believe I am having to argue with another Republican over this issue.
Not to mention the fact that Mitt is a Governor, Hillary is only a junior Senator. I would like to see her have to fight a governor. I think a governor is more qualified than a Senator.
Candidates have come on FR before, so I wouldn't be surprised if Mitt drops by. It's his style, anyway.
You don’t understand the Constitution or our form of government. That’s why you’re surprised. Hopefully Fred will explain it to you during the campaign.
Interesting angle--the "I'm not looking for a father..." comment.
I can't tell you how many FREEPERS, when responding to theological concerns about Mitt, have said on threads, "I'm not looking for a 'Pastor-in-Chief'..."
Well, I guess on that level, then...when folks tout him as a devoted husband of one wife and a devoted father of 5 adults...the FPC (FREEPER politically correct) response is, "I'm not looking or voting for a husband. I'm not looking or voting for a father."
I’m not casting a toothpaste commercial .....
:) LOL
Nor am I looking for an Olympian-in-Chief.
Neither Romney nor Thompson will get many votes in Dixie, after they insulted Southrons over the Confederate flag. We won’t vote for either of them.
