Mitt Romney's campaign tells The Brody File that Bill Wichterman, who used to do conservative and religious outreach for Fred Thompson's campaign, has joined Team Romney. This is a nice "get." He'll be a part of the Faith and Values steering committee.
Bill Wichterman left the Thompson campaign because Thompson DOES NOT support the federal marriage amendment. At least the version that is on the table now. Mitt Romney does support it. Wichterman liked that fit. Who can blame him?
This is a guy who has been big on the federal marriage amendment for years. When Bill Frist was trying to push the amendment through the Senate, it was Wichterman who was leading the charge by getting social conservative groups organized and mobilized. Expect him to be a big boost for the Romney campaign when it comes to the marriage issue. His depth of knowledge here is masterful.
It's not just the marriage issue. By nabbing Wichterman, it's a sign to inside and outside the beltway social conservative groups that Romney is serious in courting them. Wichterman is very well respected by these groups and he has close contacts at places like Focus on the Family, Family Research Council, etc. When he was on the Hill, he was very active in the Senate's "Value Action Team" meetings where dozens of groups would meet once a week to go over social policy and plot strategy.

I saw Mitt and his wife the other day being interviewed by Hannity. I was very impressed, they have been in love since they were 15 years old. What a love story, Mitt said that she is his starter wife AND his trophy wife. I thought it was very endearing, especially in this day and age when so many don’t want to settle down until they have gotten tired of playing the field. What an example they would be to the younger generations. And here Mitt is, such a good looking man and he is so faithful to his wife. What a testimony about how people should live their lives!
I think Hunter would be a better choice for Romney.
Mitt does not need support on values and Huckabee's positions on some other key issues, like immigration, would not help the ticket. If Romney wins the primaries, he's overcome the anti-Mormon opposition. In the General between Hillary & Mitt, religion will not be an issue for enough voters to make a difference. And bringing Arkansas along does not help much, either.
Hunter brings a depth of experience in legislative and defense areas. I'd much rather have Hunter as VP & President of the Senate than Huckabee. (Even better would be Hunter/Romney but that's not likely to happen.)
He sure is. And for good reason.
And thus the slow implosion of Fred continues....
I think it is really terrible to jump all over Mitt for seeing the light. Then you mention our President, true, he is a man with integrity, but he wasn’t always like that, he used to be a guy who liked to party, does that mean that we cannot accept the fact that George Bush is a changed man, does it mean that he has “jumped all over the place” because he woke up and saw the light? I think I see a problem with your reasoning.
No matter, it is wrong to anyway encourage same sex marriage, it will be the downfall of our civilization, I think it is safe to say it would be ok to make it a Federal matter in the case of something of this magnitude. According to that logic, we should have never made slavery unconstitional. Many died in the Civil War, proving that this was not a good rational for certain issues, that in fact, the Federal Government does have jurisdiction in certain, very important issues. I would say that same sex marriage, with all of it’s demoralizing results on the future health of our country is a valid matter for the Federal Government, I am fine with amendment making it illegal. The issue threatens to destroy our country, and if it takes hold, could be the future justification for future devasting terrorist attacks. I think this is a very serious matter, and I have no problem with the Federal Government sticking their nose in this matter.
And people need to remember that it is still very early, the polls might not be as important as people think they are. Time will tell who will emerge as the front runners.
You’re right. Yes he’s good looking but his intelligence and family values are extremely impressive. Now more than ever, young people need a ROLE MODEL. Mitt’s the real thing.
“I saw Mitt and his wife the other day being interviewed by Hannity. I was very impressed, they have been in love since they were 15 years old.
They’re both an inspiration and so very down to earth.
Hillary is so shrill, so smarmy, so two-faced and beligerent -- that Romney would look like a magnificent orator when compared alongside.
Romney is quick-witted -- but not vindictive.
He is the perfect anti-Hillary candidate -- not to mention the fact he holds good solid common sense conservative views on most all issues.
GO ROMNEY!!
My very evangelical church (it leans Pentacostal, even though we reject labels) is very very supportive of Mitt Romney.
Consider the fact that it wasn't long ago that southern Baptists and other 'fundamental' Protestant churches didn't view CATHOLICS as mainstream 'Christian, per se.'
In some parts of Ireland, the Protestants STILL don't view Catholics as 'Christian, per se.'
Personally, I consider Catholics as brothers in Christ, redemption, salvation, life-changing. I love them, and all the good Catholics do in this world, and I was raised as a fairly conservative Baptist.
Likewise, I view Mormons as different, but it's hard to argue against their success in promoting wholesome, hard-working, patriotic Americans.
When I think Mormon, three words come to mind.
Donny and Marie Osmond -- and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
Personally, I already have a 'Romney' bumper sticker on my car, and other places.
I urge others to do the same, whether a bumper sticker or yard sign, or whatever.
It is important to spread the word that Mitt Romney is a viable, wholesome, and lovable candidate -- despite the virulently anti-Mormon faction and its hate-Romney quest.
There’s no comparison between slavery and marriage. That’s ludicrous. Slavery was violent subjugation. Marriage is a voluntary contract. Further, slavery was clearly a matter of interstate commerce, and was clearly causing all sorts of hassles for the gubmint. The congress was constantly dealing with it. In this instance, you leave it up to the states and that’s that. If you don’t trust the people to decide, then you don’t believe in freedom.
To underline the point, murder is properly left a state matter. You’d agree murder is worse than slavery or homosexuality?

Fred Thompson, seeing Mitt Romney’s campaign jab at Hillary Clinton over driver’s licenses for illegal immigrants, went after the former Massachusetts governor on his record on immigration earlier today.
Team Romney responds with a statement from spokesman Kevin Madden:
Fred Thompson is as wrong as he is late to this campaign and the debate over tougher immigration enforcement.
Governor Romney has been at the forefront on this issue, advocating tougher standards of enforcement of existing immigration laws while also initiating the call the cut off federal funding to sanctuary cities that ignore our immigration laws. Governor Romney also took action in his state by working out an agreement with the federal government to authorize state police to enforce federal immigration laws.
Governor Romney strongly opposed the McCain-Kennedy legislation and was a vocal critic of the blanket amnesty it provided to lawbreakers with the Z-visa provision.
Hey newbie, do you have a real connection w/ Romney campaign or are you just someone who found a neat handle.
Hang in there, he may be our next President!
“HOLY CRAP ARE YOU REALLY MITT ROMNEY? If you are, welcome to Free Republic, sir.” - Come now, you seriously think Mitt Romney, who’s done hundreds of campaign events this year, has time to come on to FR?
And do you really think freeper “George W. Bush” is our President? I wish!!
“If Romney wins the primaries, as I hope he does, then the best move he could make would be to choose Huckabee as his running mate, in my opinion.”
The Huckster is too liberal on fiscal issues.
Romney would be much better teaming up with Thompson, they are more aligned on their positions and philosophy.
“Mitt Romney is a viable, wholesome, and lovable candidate — despite the virulently anti-Mormon faction and its hate-Romney quest.”
That’s why I always defend him, isn’t the world a confused enough of a place already, do people have to go out of their way to bismirch a good man just because he isn’t their first choice? By that I mean people who have already decided to vote for Fred, they think the ends justifies the means, they don’t care who they have to push into the mud if they think it will further their cause.
“The Huckster is too liberal on fiscal issues.”
I meant to pick up votes in the South.
From what I’ve witnessed, a lot of Christians support Huckabee more than any other candidate.
