Chicago (AP) -- A federal appeals court on Wednesday denied former Gov. George Ryan's request to remain free on bail while he appeals his conviction on corruption charges.
The ruling means Ryan will likely have to go to prison next week.
"The voluminous record here demonstrates that the appellants were guilty of the crimes with which they were charged," Judge Diane P. Wood wrote in the opinion issued by the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
Ryan, 73, has been free on bail since he was convicted in 2006 of steering state contracts to friends, using tax dollars to run his campaigns and covering up drivers license bribery.

King Rod still does the same stuff and more. I’d love to see him in a jumpsuit with his two front teeth knocked out.
Corrupt bastard. I hope he spends a long time in there. Seems like I remember him either commuting all death sentences in Illinois or puting them on hold. For that alone he should be thrown in with those scum.
Odd that there’s no party affiliation for Mr. Ryan. I guess that means he’s a DEMOCRAT.
RINO.
Run George. RUN!
Why do you think he did it ? He knew where he’d be headed shortly and wanted to get in good with his future roomies.
What is a former politician go for in smokes?
He brought this on himself. I don’t feel any sympathy. And his stewardship of the state otherwise was nothing to be proud of, either. Indeed, it would have been better if Glenn Poshard had won in 1998.
