Typical government response: instead of improving its food so that the kids will want to eat in the cafeteria, the school district wants to outlaw the competition.
It works out real good. The kids just like it with all the diversity.
There's one kind of diversity the government schools think is bad.

OUTSOURCE the feeding of these students....sheesh....sounds like a good idea to me....convert the cafeteria into classrooms.
Egg salads...ummmmm, my favorite. She’s got my business.
The proposed ordinance likely will meet legal challenges which would waste resources; a much easier approach would be to lock down the school grounds at lunch time.
“There’s one kind of diversity the government schools think is bad.”
Actually, there is one kind of diversity the government schools think is GOOD. Skin color. All other kinds are not really allowed, as far as I can tell.
Yup. It's amazing what institutional food can be when the parties are properly motivated.
My daughter's college is really proud of the cafeteria. And they should be. I've eaten there even when it's NOT parents' weekend, and it's astonishing how good (and healthy) the food is. The cafeteria at my old college in the 70s was so bad, nobody ate there but first semester freshmen. I'm not sure how they stayed in business, maybe the guys from the engineering college didn't notice what they were eating . . . .
School cafeteria “food” is a joke.

Just wait until these morons run healthcare.
I’d like to know what the cafeteria offers that really is so much more health conscience. It seems, at least from my child’s lunch menu, that they still offer a lot of processed foods.
Just for speculation, I wonder how this would go if Julie Nguyen - likely a LEGAL immigrant since it’s tough to swim from Vietnam - was instead Carlos Sanchez, an undocumented migrant from Merida.
Any different?
Just who does Nguyen think she is? A Vietnamese immigrant, coming to OUR country, seeing an unfilled niche, hiring people, working hard to fill an obvious need in her community. How dare she do things the old-fashion American way, in the face of official opposition? If allowed to get away with this affront, the next thing is additional employees, more trucks and future prosperity for all. Can’t allow it, can they???
God Bless America. (or God HELP America)
Everyone knows...those signs stop crime, drugs, and guns.......
maybe they need to ban bringing food from home as well, so that the school can ensure that students are eating healthy... plus this way they can make sure nobody brings any of those illegal peanut butter sandwiches.
All about the money. “*Wah!!* She’s taking our money from us.” It sounds like her offerings are healthier, too. Probably fresher, as well.
School cafeteria food is always revolting . . . it’s the law.
I remember one time when the football coaches threatened to stand the cafeteria manager upside down in a fifty five gallon drum of discarded “cheese surprise” if he ever served it again.
Regarding the schools’ “healthy” menu, spend some time here: http://junkfoodscience.blogspot.com/2007/10/junkfood-science-exclusive-big-one.html Biggest dietary study ever, and most people haven’t heard about it because it didn’t turn out the way it was supposed to.
Does anyone remember the California school district that changed its menu to include ‘healthy’ foods like tofu, bean sprouts, etc. —and the kids left the school grounds to go to the local fast food operations?
I think the cafeteria operation went broke.
Sure, like the menu my grandkids get at lunch.... pizza, corn and french fries, all at the same meal. All just hunkey dorey according to the government food police.
