German conservationists on Monday condemned the freeing of some 17,000 minks from a fur farm, apparently by animal rights activists, saying they would starve in the wild

Um hello? Minks are wild animals, they're SUPPOSED to live in the wild! They survived thousands of years out in the elements, they'll be fine. It's what they naturally do, you know? Sheesh, you could at least get a degree in biology before you go mouthing off about animal welfare.

But these are "tame" mink, raised in captivity. it's not like they were captured from the wild and put on mink farms. They haven't developed any hunting and gathering skills that a wild mink would have learned from it's mother mink. I don't even think mink are indigenous to Germany, their normal wild food sources may not be available.

Picture these minks as having been raised in New Orleans and you will understand why they are going to starve to death.

"MINK" [no 's"] are a smaller cousin to the weasel. They are carnivorous. It is naturally found in North America, northern Europe, and most of Russia west of Ural Mountains in forested areas.

If these are North American mink, they could possibly wipe out the remaining Europeon mink, which are on the endangered species list, and are claimed to be one of the most endangered mammals in the world. Whether they are actually endangered is another story, but it shows the stupidity of these "animal rights" groups. The Europeon species is claimed to be extinct in central Europe since the beginning of the century, so if there are still some Eurowienie mink left, these captive fur farm mink will wipe out the last of them.

As previously mentioned, they aren't vicious little beasts that bears are scared of. They are from the weasel family. They'll bite you, like most little critters will if you corner them however.
