Christians encouraged to take action on funeral flag recitation ban

Allie Martin OneNewsNow.comOctober 29, 2007

The founder of the American Family Association (AFA) says it's outrageous that a complaint from one person can put a halt to a long-standing tradition at funerals throughout all 125 national cemeteries.

A complaint about religious content has led to a ban on flag-folding recitations by Veterans Administration employees and volunteers at all national cemeteries. At thousands of military burials, the American flag is folded 13 times and volunteers recite the significance of each fold to survivors. The 11th fold glorifies "the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob," while the 12th glorifies "God the Father, the Son and Holy Ghost." (See earlier article)

Now the unpaid VA volunteers, along with employees, have been banned from conducting the recital at all national cemeteries. AFA founder Don Wildmon says a national federal agency has created law.

"They are getting rid of God from the burial of people who have fought and died for the freedom of religion," he says, "and they are taking away that freedom of religion."

Wildmon contends the situation is similar to the incident when one person's complaint resulted in prayer being taken out of public schools. AFA has an online petition on its website that will be sent to President George W. Bush, asking him to rescind the directive. "He has the power to rescind this policy if he so desires," says Wildmon. The organization is also encouraging Christians across the country to contact their senators and representative to express their feelings about the ban.

Next they’ll be demanding a copy of the Kuran be folded in the middle.

At a national burger chain yesterday, we saw a sign in the window of the Pledge of Alligence with “One nation under God”. I won’t say which store for obvious reasons but I fear it won’t last long as it was in the heart of blue country.

Signed their petition two days ago. Unbelievable that they rolled over just because one dipstick complained. Hope Bush has the spine to do something (not holding my breath).

Whatever happened to the days when one complainer was just told to stuff a sock in it?

Agree! Have sent it on to all families and friends but “server timed out”. This spineless BS has got to stop. Wonder how many complaints against the complainer it will take. God I hate these “roll over and concede” responses we’ve been seeing.

They dropped the petition?????!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don;t hold your breath for Jorge El Segundo. Its HIS administration which has implemented the rule.

The only solution for this is massive civil disobedience, but if a group like this rolls over, I doubt if there are enough Americans with testicles, backbone and guts to go through with it. Only a few people won’t work. TO stop this you need tens of thousands and apparently most Americans have become spineless jellyfish who cave in to every idiotic government rule and assinine court decision like so many blind sheep.
