When Rudys candidacy started to show legs, pundits and family values activists alike assumed that ignorant voters knew only his 9/11 video reel and not his personal history or his stands on issues. Americans do not yet realize how far outside of the mainstream of conservative thought that Mayor Giulianis social views really are, declared Tony Perkins, the Family Research Council leader, in February. But despite Rudys fleeting stabs at fudging his views, they are well known now, and still he leads in national polls of Republican voters and is neck and neck with Fred Thompson in the Bible Belt sanctuary of South Carolina.
There are various explanations for this. One is that 9/11 and terrorism fears trump everything. Another is that the rest of the field is weak. But the most obvious explanation is the one that Washington resists because it contradicts the citys long-running story line. Namely, that the political clout ritualistically ascribed to Mr. Perkins, James Dobson of Focus on the Family, Gary Bauer of American Values and their ilk is a sham.
These self-promoting values hacks dont speak for the American mainstream. They dont speak for the Republican Party. They no longer speak for many evangelical ministers and their flocks. The emperors of morality have in fact had no clothes for some time. Should Rudy Giuliani end up doing a victory dance at the Republican convention, it will be on their graves.

The GWOT will be an issue separating the Republicans from Democrats, but every Republican except for Ron Paul has pretty much that same "win-in-Iraq and fight-the-jihadists" policies. Rudy is no better/different than Romney, McCain, Hunter, Thompson on that issue. There is no reason to vote Rudy just because you think the GWOT is an important issue.
“RINO Rudy is the PERFECT CANDIDATEfor the other party.”
You got it!
“9-11 Rooty is fodder for late night comedy routines.
Jay Leno as debate moderator.....getting ready to ask Rooty a question.
Rooty pipes up, “9-11.”
Leno: Mayor, I havent asked you a question yet!”
lol
But yet I heard that Rooty was commenting about those “one-issue voters.”
9-11 is Rooty’s one issue.
Culture of life:

Rudy Giuliani: “Yes I believe, I believe it is.”

Announcer: “Back in 1996, mayor Giuliani went to federal court to challenge new federal laws requiring the city to inform the federal government about illegal immigrants.”
Rudy Giuliani: “There isn’t a mayor or a public official in this country that’s more strongly pro immigrant than I am. Including disagreeing with President Clinton when he signed an anti-immigration legislation about two or three years ago.”
Gun control:
CNN clip
Rudy Giuliani: “I’m in favor of gun control”
Meet The Press:
Tim Russert: “How about registration of all handguns?”
Rudy Giuliani: “You know I’m in favor of that. I’ve been on your show many times.”

Announcer: “As mayor he supported civil unions, and extending health and other benefits to gay couples.”
ABC Clip: “I supported domestic partnership legislation and signed it”
Meet The Press:

ABC Clip:
Rudy Giuliani: “Frankly George, I’d like to run on all the lines. I’d like to run on the liberal line, the conservative line, I’d like to run on the democratic line if I could figure out how to do it.”
Conservative Values:
Meet The Press:
Tim Russert: “Whether it’s gays in the military, gun control, campaign finance, late term abortion - you and Hillary Clinton are in sync on those issues.”
Rudy Giuliani: “Well then maybe the other side should stop the ‘He’s part of the vast right wing conspiracy’.”

It’s losing ground to the national debt
Nonsense.
Only to someone who doesn't care - like our Senators, Representatives, President and most presidential candidates. People looking toward the future do care about our ridiculous spending and our trillions of dollars of debt.
Rooty’s irrational behavior-—lurching from one position to another, taking calls during speeches, staging flop interviews with Hannity and 20/20, to pimp, er ah, I mean, pump his wife——demonstrates troubling erratic behavior voters should be alert to.
Rooty acts like someone improperly medicated on behavior modification drugs. Hopefully, he will seek medical attention to adjust the dosage.
Of course, he’ll deny being on B/M drugs.
In any case, his irrational behavior disqualifies Rooty from public office.
People looking toward the future do care about our ridiculous spending and our trillions of dollars of debt.
Govt spending as a percentage of GDP is currently the LOWEST in almost forty years because the current tax policy is advangeous to investment and growth.
Which is why the national “debt” is about as phony an issue as “global warming” on the scale of boutique boogeymen.
Political clout is not “all or nothing”. Dobson influences millions of voters - certainly not all, perhaps not entirely, and the influence may appear less now that the recent flap is fading in light of latest news cycles, but his influence is huge nonetheless.
Whoever has greatest clout in persuading voters directly, Dobson is still among the top.
Are you telling me social conservatives will vote according to what Dr. Dobson (a psychologist not a pastor) says?
If you cannot parse what I wrote, my writing more won’t help.

P.S. I heard that Rudy was now pretending to be against McCain/Feingold, so I’m making sure the record is straight.
Many thanks for a great contribution to the thread.
I do hope Rooty will get his behavior/mod drugs adjusted--------the poor man's memory is seriously damaged.
When you can't remember your own political positions--------that's serious business.
(Sniffle) Memory loss must be a drag on his wife (his third one).
Rudy wakes up, sees her laying there, and says, "Who are you and what are you doing in my bed?"
Lord God, sweet Jesus, that must hurt (sob).
Poor Rooty!!
Sniff .......................
I find it ironic that in Giuliani's speech at Regent University (as shown in the video at the link you provided), he goes after Bill Clinton for responding poorly or not at all to terrorist acts against us. While Rudy Giuliani himself responding disturbingly bad to the first terrorist act committed by a muslim terrorist while Giuliani was Mayor of NYC.Here's the truth about the first terrorist attack in New York City during Giuliani's term as mayor. On 23 February 1997 an Islamic terrorist...
This qualifies for a thread of its own, IMO.
These guys Dobson et al, are the rights equivalent of Jessie Jacksons and Al Sharptons... they don’t speak for a large number, but represent themselves as if they do.
These attention whores no more represent all religious americans than Jackson or Sharpton represent all blacks.
They are completely overplaying their hands with this 3rd party stay at home nonsense, and going to get bitchslapped at the end of the day if they keep it up. All these guys are going to wind up doing is splitting the conservative vote enough to get Hillary in the White House.. which is a net loss for conservatives and values... and if they fail to split the vote enough to manage that and a republican they don’t like wins, they show that they don’t have the power they claim to have and wind up marginalized. Either way its a lose lose for them and those that follow them.
But hey, who cares right?
