Yes that is correct carrying coals to Newcastle which is referring to Newcastle Upon Tyne in the north east of England which at one time had a large coal industry. Well put it this way I assume it is that Newcastle because there is also a Newcastle Under Lyme in Staffordshire which also was in the heart of coal mining. Staffordshire was where my father did his national service in the coal mines and had the injury which finished his football (soccer) career and IMHO has led to many of his health problems both physical and mental since.
