You wouldn't know it from reading the papers, but the favorite to win the Republican presidential nomination is a confirmed right-winger. On issues such as free speech and religion, secrecy and due process, civil rights and civil liberties, pornography and democracy, this moralist and self-styled lawman has exhibited all the key hallmarks of Bush-era conservatism.
That candidate is Rudolph W. Giuliani.
As any New Yorker can tell you, the last word anyone in the 1990s would have attached to the brash, furniture- breaking mayor was "liberal" -- and the second-to-last was "moderate." With his take-many-prisoners approach to crime and his unerring pro-police instincts, the prosecutor-turned-proconsul made his mark on the city not by embracing its social liberalism but by trying to crush it.

If that came from anybody other than a Rudyite, it might have sounded objective. Coming from you it is just spin. Whether you just bought the LP’s spin or it originated with you, it isn’t to be believed by anyone with active brain cells.
LOL
Nice try.
Rudy is anti gun, no chance he’ll get my vote simply for that.
Mike
Oh, I dunno about that. I am a hard core curmudgeon. My friends call me an SOB and think that I am impossible to get along with because I am too stident and unwilling to compromise.
But cheers to you anyway even if I would rather fight Hillary then try to make excuses for another so called Republican.
It’s definitely set off one HELL of a discussion, as intended.
Apparently you don't think the same things are important as I do. Here's why some of us on FR will NEVER for the the statist ahole
Julie Annie, upChuckie Schemer and Dim Brady. All liberal icons.
Notice Dennis Miller... don't trust him...
So that’s who that is. Didn’t recognize him.
Is it 5 O’clock somewhere?
Since you are so horrified that people not voting against Hillary will “get us all killed”, I can presume you won’t be voting for Rudy in the primary, right? Because Rudy’s the only possible winner of the Pub primary that’s making everyone here planning on staying home.
Qwinn
The people of NYC called Rudy many things, but “liberal” was never one of them.
They called him “right wing nut case”, “crazy conservative”, “Republican racist”, “fascistic right winger”, but never “liberal”
Rudy was opposed to having NYC tax-payer money fund an exhibit that was anti-religion. He threatened to cut off their funding.
Right. Isn’t that what I said. He didn’t think the taxpayer should pay for that trash.
It’s always after 5 PM somewhere. ;-)
There are also some conservatives here who won't vote for Rudy because he's pro-choice and pro-gay rights and has questionable moral character. I respect that.
The problem is telling them apart from each other.
My bent is to believe that the most strident, name-calling and hateful among them are closet Dems.
Conservative pro-life people are generally so based on moral and religious grounds. Truly moral and truly religious people do not call people they disagree with "stupid," "ignorant," "foolish" or "dumb." Take that into account when you're trying to tell the difference.
Go Fred Thompson!
They called him right wing nut case, crazy conservative, Republican racist, fascistic right winger, but never liberal
You've just given some very good reasons why I don't feel entirely uncomfortable with Rudy as the Republican candidate.
