“FRed Thompson as Jed Clampett” Hit Piece PING!!!
LOL! The drive by media is so desperate to paint FRed in a bad light, they are giving him all kinds of FRee publicity to whet the average voter’s curiousity!! :-)

FWIW, I always thought Jed Clampett was a very wise man. FRed strikes me the same way.

Oh well hell, Thompson busting moonshiners just killed my support for him.

If he has no respect for small business and our Constitutional right to go blind from a bad batch of hooch, I can’t stomach the man...

Guess I’ll have to switch to Ron Paul, where the grass is greener, and could be made legal one day...

Did you catch this line?

Soon after, the new U.S. attorney for middle Tennessee began replacing the Democratic legal staff with Republicans, as was customary at the time.

A case involving a county sheriff could ever be a simple “open and shut case.” And by definition, it can’t be routine when the head of law enforcement is the one the law enforcement is brought against.

>> But more than anything, Thompson took on the state’s moonshiners and a local culture, rooted in Tennessee’s hills and hollows, that celebrated the independent whiskey maker’s battle against the government’s revenue agents. Twenty-seven of his cases involved moonshining <<

When the county SHERIFF is the one RUNNING the moonshine, you can be well assured the county is an organized-crime fiefdom, not the good-ol’ boys being harrassed by big government.

Note that they left out the part where Thompson dealt a blow to the illegal corruption of the Democrat’s power in Nashville. Ray Blanton from McNairy County was the Governor and there was more than enough corruption to go around. The reason Democrats were being replaced by Republicans while Fred was young is because the Democrats were corrupt and were going to prison...many of them...

Thompson's saving grace in court was his calm demeanor ... and his sense of humor. During a particularly tense trial, as one law enforcement witness tore seals on three successive envelopes before he could get to the evidence within, Thompson quipped, "Is there really anything in there at all?"

I love it!

Fred Thompson takes on the Corrupt Democratic Establishment in Tennesse and wins.

Ethical trouble in the fast-and-loose Blanton administration began early but was downplayed by the local media. But by 1977, Marie Ragghianti, chairman of the state's Board of Pardons and Paroles, was getting worried. She finally refused to release some felons who were later proved to have bought their freedom by bribing Blanton aides. Mr. Blanton summarily fired her and then set his media friends upon her, smearing her reputation.

Ms. Ragghianti eventually hired Fred Thompson, the Republican counsel for the Senate's Watergate committee, as her lawyer to file a suit challenging her dismissal. In July 1978, a jury found that Mr. Blanton had fired her "arbitrarily and capriciously," ordered her reinstatement and awarded her $38,000 in back pay. ""

This is the story that the MSM wants everyone to forget. Fred busted this Clinton Clone's chops.
