CAIRO, Egypt - Muslims and Coptic Christians clashed after Friday prayers over a land dispute, leaving 20 injured, security officials said.
Police arrested 50 people following the clash in Minya province, about 130 miles south of Cairo, the officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media.
The clashes began after prayers when Muslim villagers in Izbat el-Abid protested against the extension of a monastery in a nearby village, claiming the construction was on state property, the officials said.
Police had to ask for reinforcements from throughout the province to control the clash, the officials added.
Coptic Christians make up an estimated 10 percent of Egypt's 76.5 million people. They generally live in peace with the Muslim majority, though occasional clashes occur.

The ten percent has them worried, maybe it’ll grow to 11 percent? I’m sure they told the authorities the reason, but we know that makes no difference. As if they did it in that part of the world to piss muslims off...
A shame, I bet this church needed it for a school or storage of supplies they give out to the same ones who lost their minds over it... woe if it was due to conversions.
I wonder how long for this world this 10% minority is. With the growing radicalization of islam, I worry about them, though Egypt has been ok so far at keeping the most rabid of the islamic dogs at bay.

They generally live at peace with the Mohammedans because they are scared stiff if they do anything the Mohammedans will kill them. We have two Egyptian Orthodox Christians in our parish and the stories they tell us about what is going on in the “old country” are really awful. The media, like the Bush Administration of course, would never let any of us know about that stuff.

Egypt - Islam is the official state religion and primary source of legislation. Accordingly, religious practices that conflict with Islamic law are prohibited. Muslims may face legal problems if they convert to another faith (up to and including death). Requires non-Muslims to obtain what is now a presidential decree to build a place of worship.

Muslims in Egypt and some other Muslim countries are converting to Christianity in ever increasing numbers. The anger of muslims will increase too.
Yeah...well just wait...Sunday's coming, and as soon as mass is over, boy are those moslems gonna be sorry. < /s >
