Phelps testifies in Maryland lawsuit (Fred Phelps of "GodHatesFags" sued)

BALTIMORE (AP) - The head of a fundamentalist Kansas church being sued over a funeral protest testified in Baltimore today.

Fred Phelps of Topeka's Westboro Baptist Church said he didn't consider whether children would see a sign carried by protesters with the words "Semper Fi Fags" and two stick figures that appear to be engaged in a sex act.

Phelps says they needed to warn to the country to change its wicked ways.

Under cross-examination, Phelps agreed his presence was NOT wanted at the funeral and he could have protested somewhere else.

Phelps' group is being sued by Albert Snyder, of York, Pennsylvania, over a protest at the funeral of his son, Marine Lance Corporal Matthew Snyder.

Albert Snyder is seeking unspecified monetary damages for invasion of privacy and intent to inflect emotional distress.

Pile on baby! Sue this malignant geezer and his family till the end of time and hunt down every asset they have!

It will be tough. The family is loaded with lawyers and wise in the ways of hiding assets from collectors, but they will find little sympathy where they are sued and even doing the legal work themselves will still eat up time and money.

They could care less if children see their signs. They stood in front of Walter Reed in a residential neighborhood with that sign. They "protested" the Walk for Freedom in 2005 with that sign and 1000s of children were present.

two stick figures that appear to be engaged in a sex act.
It takes very little imagination to see what that particular sign is depicting!

I saw a bit of this on Fox & Friends this morning, they were saying the father sued for breach of privacy—and that Phelps would claim freedom of speech—yeah, you can say what you want, but isn’t it still against the law to shout “FIRE!” in a crowded theater??

I hope Phelps and his disgusting ‘family’ get either sued for every single penny they have or they wind up in jail for contempt for a long time! They’ve been attacking the families of our brave dead heroes for waaaaaaaaaaaay too long, IMO!

Absolutely, these people have blasted through the bounds of mere idiocy to something that can not even be described. I can't begin to wrap my head around how disrupting the solemn funerals of soldiers is supposed to support your crusade against homosexuality. Lunacy isn't even a strong enough word.

Man they are disgusting. A wacko cult to be sure.

I hope they get totally shut down.

Protesting a funeral in full view of the grieving family would seem to meet the standard of an intentional infliction of emotional distress. Hope they have to pay.

It’s a good thing I’m not on the jury for this one. This is the same as shouting “Fire” in a theater.

I spent 20 years in the military - you know where I stand on this issue.

I’m convinced that Phelps is a liberal who hates the military. Otherwise he’d be protesting outside a gay church, of which there are many.

The idea is that they should be sued anytime they appear on any feasible angle.

Part of his method is to so provoke people that they act out and can sue them or localities for not protecting his group. It is a scam the Phelps clan has been doing for a long time.

I get so tired of hearing these "people" described as fundamentalists or Baptists. They are neither, they are evil.

This is from their website:

Why do you picket soldiers' funerals?

Here are some axiomatic matters of fact:

These turkeys are not heroes. They are lazy, incompetent idiots looking for jobs because they're not qualified for honest work.

They were raised on a steady diet of fag propaganda in the home, on TV, in church, in school, in mass media - everywhere - the two-pronged lie: 1) It's OK to be gay; and, 2) Anyone saying otherwise, like WBC, is a hatemonger who must be vilified, demonized, marginalized into silence.

Therefore, with full knowledge of what they were doing, they voluntarily joined a fag-infested army to fight for a fag-run country now utterly and finally forsaken by God who Himself is fighting against that country.

Oh, and then there's this too:

Thank God for the California Fires

This lawsuit might get thrown out of court, It might cost the good guys to sue them. But it still costs the Phelps time and money to respond to the lawsuits, The good guys might not win but they can sure nickle and dime the Phelps to death and keep their lawyers busy.

These People are no Baptists, but deserve to be fully baptized to they are internally silent.

It's a good thing that filthy bitch didn't show up at my friend's funeral last year (he was was killed by an IED after fighting for life for weeks). I would have beat her to death with my bare hands. Why anyone hasn't sent the Phelps family to the hospital yet is beyond me.

I understand that most of the members of the Westboro Baptist Church are from Phelps’ own family. Therefore I’ll venture to say they’re inbred, mentally if not physically.

All good conservatives must know that every time Phelps does something (always some lunacy) he and his actions are dragged out on the leftist blogs as the poster child of “fundamentalist Christians”. Good Christians need to do more to demonstrate their distance from this nut and do it very publicly. If you are in a conservative Christian group or denomination, I wish you would make that suggestion to your leaders - up to the top.
