The falling value of the dollar does NOT improve our standard of living. It makes every American poorer relative to the rest of the world.

I can't believe anyone at FreeRepublic would actually try to compare the standard of living here in the USA to that of other countries and state that the USA is becoming poorer. We are light years away from almost every country in the world. If your life sucks, do something about other than complaining and trashing the USA.

Based on what? Dollars, right? So if those dollars decline, it is absolutely fair for DB to say we are "Poorer", as he says here:

The falling value of the dollar does NOT improve our standard of living. It makes every American poorer relative to the rest of the world.

DB's usage makes it clear that his is a vector of change comparison. Not an absolute comparison. He didn't say "Poorer THAN" the rest of the world. He said simply poorer, relative to the rest of the world, than we would otherwise be or have been.

Um, I’m pretty happy with my life...

I’m actually pretty wealthy relative to most...

And I didn’t “trash the USA”...

Someone has a chip on their shoulder simply discussing facts. The continued falling value of a nation’s currancy is not the path to a better standard of living or wealth in general. It is as simple as that. It’s a bit like taxing your way to prosperity... Lots of libs think you can. It fails everytime...
