DOLLAR SKY IS FALLING! DOLLAR SKY IS FALLING! EVERYONE PANIC!
10/25/2007 | Philistone

To read the MSM headlines (which I try not to) the falling dollar is the end of the world. Maybe Wall Street should get a Noble Prize for their work in "Global Dollar Cooling". But seriously, what are the effects of a weak dollar?

1) Increased exports. Last month's exports were among the highest on record. Trade deficit? What trade deficit? Boeing, Caterpiller, Microsoft, Apple, etc. all with surges in foreign export sales.

2) Outsourcing? What outsourcing? All of the sudden it becomes cheaper to employ an American technician than one from Bangalore.

3) Cost of living? (I love this part!) Since China has pegged the Yuan to the Dollar, everything we get from China costs exactly the same! Maybe this will convince them to unlink the Yuan. Then we'll REALLY see who's the best producer.

4) Buhh... buhh... buhh... but foreigners will stop buying American Treasuries! What? In order to buy Russian ones? Chinese ones? Venezualian ones? Give me a break.

A weak Dollar equals: more exports, more jobs, more tourists (spending money) and the same or higher standard of living.

Bring it on!

Neat thread; maybe while we're waiting for the rest of us to show up we can either watch the standard news or read "New home sales increase

I saw that and didn’t comment. I knew it was a mud-hole. You know me well enough to know I care most about the policies...

You're damned right it's a mud hole, you friggen wrote it, so wear it and wear it proudly! I don't know you well enough but I can only guess. Anyone that speaks of policies -- rather than speaking of the liberty to handle their own economic affairs -- is either a statist or a closet statist and has no concept of the Constitution, particularly its Preamble.

I do NOT consider GWB’s signature on NAFTA treaty documents to override our Constitution.

And those treaties do not override our Constitution. If you bothered to learn what those agreement actually do rather than relying on the Leftists to tell you what those agreements are about , you'd backtrack on everything you just wrote...or, then again, may you wouldn't. Maybe you have a particular disdain for privatization, ownership, and capitalism!

NAFTA treaty documents is what I said, not the NAFTA Agreement itself. You realize the Mexican Truckers joyride is a portion of NAFTA, right? You are correct on your second comment.

The private sector has hijacked the American economy.

This can't be serious? Who'd they take it from?

This situation must have been caused by the many evils of unfettered capitalism. All that freedom is killing us.

Am I on FR?

What you just described is called inflation. That REALLY screws up the value of a dollar.

The trucking agreement is part of the original agreement, which was not signed by GWB.

Are you against the cheaper sugar imports that were part of CAFTA?

It depends on what definition of freedom someone is trying to use. As it relates to Economic “Degrees of Freedom”, then it’s cool-aid, and I ain’t drinking it.

Oh, so your mud-hole is even larger than I thought. I think someone needs to stomp-in your mud-hole.

“You’re damned right it’s a mud hole, you friggen wrote it, so wear it and wear it proudly”

I’ll just politely say, no I did not, I would encourage you to go back and read who did indeed write it. When you get that much accomplished, come back and school me in this area. Read my posting history first please. I’ve talked a great deal about this very subject and stand by every post I’ve made. I don’t wish to smear you or ask you to wear anything or wear it proudly, so I’ll just say, have a nice day.

Please note that it really took a lot for me not to call you a —cking clueless idiot. I tend to frown on name calling and insults.

Yes, math, accounting, statistics, it’s all funny. Especially when free traders work with them.

So why was my explanation of GDP calculations funny?
