Latest? Stuff like that fell off my Nissan 4x4 20 years ago.

Let’s just hope they test this stuff in real sunlight, not laboratory ‘sun’ for a year before they make our troops wear it.

Probably by using the same technique used to stick teflon to the pan ;-)

A common misconception. They don't stick Teflon to the pan.

They stick the pan to the Teflon...

No, he used the correct term. The lager object is always what the smaller object is stuck/ placed on to.

You don’t put the car on the tires, you put tires on the car.

You case harden the crankshaft, you don’t crankshaft the case hardening.

I think that moving in this direction is moving backwards... There are other options such as liquid-to-solid materials that absorb and disapate the kinetic energy of rounds impacting the material. It also means that the liquids can be heated and cooled in order to offset evironmental conditions of various theaters. the liquid-to-solid is already a reality too. Look at this article.

And I’ve never seen a ‘pan coated teflon’ advertised.

Wasn’t sure. The whole IBA is heavy, not just due to the kevlar, but also due to the ceramic inserts.

Jokes must always be tagged- it’s the only way to track their movements :-p

I think the problems been weight and longevity. I remember reading about some armor outfitter trying this path but couldn’t get around the two mentioned problems.

I don’t know if they gave up, shelved the idea for later when better materials came out, or what.

Carbon is much lighter than Kevlar. i.e Kevlar is poly para-phenyleneterephthalamide, carbon is just C.

Yeah, that's a heavy group o' letters there.

I hope it’s not too cheap.

I know, that sounds funny, but when it comes to stuff that protects troops from harm, it needs to be expensive enough that our country is the only one who can afford it.

I’d hate to think of something so cheap and easy to get that the terrorists can walk down our streets shooting people without fear of being stopped by gunfire.

That incident in California was scary enough.

"...could be woven into super-strong body armour for the military and law enforcement."

Ummm... maybe those of us who DON'T work for the government might like this sort of protection too?

What kills me is when teflon coated pans came out the coating was usually light gray ,, then marketing decided the better quality coated pans should be medium gray and the best should be black... Teflon is white....

Yep. White.
I have a roll of Teflon tape.

Kinda sounds like a contradiction in terms.
