"Children benefit from a parent who has a sense of self, who made mistakes and grew and as a result he can help a child grow up happy and confident,"

I can attest to this one. I could not have been as focused a parent in my 20s as I can now.

No you haven’t. You were 41 when you had your child. I am talking about people who have high school seniors when they are 80. You are 63 much different than what the story is portraying.

Well...you meet someone to marry whenever you do...you might be 20 or 40.

My wife and I are both early 30s and just got married. Therefore we’ll probably be in our 50s when our kids are college aged. It is what it is.

I’ve seen it right here, unfortunately. I even caught slack here a few years ago for being late 20s and single and I’m a guy...

I guess they expect people (esp. women but I’ve seen it applied to men too) to just marry the first jerk we meet at age 20 and pop out a million kids by age 30. God forbid you wait to meet someone you WANT to marry! Sheesh.

I'm 56 and raising a six year old grand son. I can still do all the backyard rough house, I just get up slower.

I have no problem with guys my age having kids, as long as they know that the job will last most of the rest of their lives.

I am so glad that you are insecure. I have no idea that you are so upset over this. What exactly is your situation to even begin to have this affect you?

Ditto that. I've given up on an easy retirement. If I retire at all, it will be to work on the small farm we live on. I wouldn't miss him growing up for the world. I hope I live long enough to see him married with his own kids. I spend all the time that I can with him now. We are home-schooling him too.

If anyone had predicted that I’d be fully involved with a first grader at my age I’d have had them committed. But, here it is and it’s the best part of my life....enjoy...

Funny thing is that I’ve got a son (Jason) from my first marriage who will turn 30 a week before my 5 yr old (Sammy) turns six in February. I’ve got 4 grand daughters from him; twin 8’s ,6, and 4. It’s funny to hear the girls call my 5 yr old “Uncle Sam.”

I have a problem with people who are so busy minding everyone else’s business that they can’t or won’t take care of their own. Some of the sorriest people I have known never miss an opportunity to try to bring other people down to their level.

I am not the least bit insecure. I hate troublemakers and usually try to avoid them. Some are so stupid that I enjoy needling them.

Thanks for the congrats! I just hope the GI stuff goes away after baby!

Oh, obviously we have judgemental people who think anyone over 30 should never have babies.

And when it really comes out on the “woman” threads, it is shocking that all these “conservatives” seem to think that girls/women should have babies before they’re 25, FGS. Usually 1 thinks of conservatives as NOT wanting them “too young”, especially in an age when we KNOW so many college types are still acting like self-absorbed childish babies. It may be fine physically, but emotionally and mentally - I don’t think so.

I’m just shocked so many conservatives act like it’s a moral IMPERATIVE that you somehow find a good mate in college (I guess) and have a baby before you’re 25.

That is sort of like liberals pushing for (any kind of) technological innovation through legislation - it’s absurd. You can’t just expect technology to reach a certain point by XX, and you can’t expect someone to find a good mate by XX.

I agree it’s just plain too old. But this:

“Would have been odd to have a 70+ geriatric as a dad in high school..”

And meanwhile, I think it’s weird when a 40yo woman OR man says s/he’s a “grandparent”. That is too bizarre to me. I like my grammas to look like GRAMMAS!

CONGRATULATIONS on the marriage! I didn’t know when you were getting married.

But oh, shame, shame on you for getting married now! It’s too late! You should go get yourself a vasectomy, old-timer! Otherwise, if you have some poor kid, you’re just selfish!

Oh my, you had me confused and scared there for a minute! Maybe not the best wording! ;-) And anyway I would’ve said YOU should be committed! LOL

My first is on the way, making me a daddy at 40.
Between that and my 6-year-younger better half, I feel about 29.
