Schlafly not keen on GOP frontrunners
One News Now ^ | 10/22/07 | Jim Brown

Conservative icon Phyllis Schlafly is expressing strong dissatisfaction with the top-tier Republican presidential candidates. She also questions the validity of the results of the Values Voters straw poll on Saturday.

Eagle Forum founder Phyllis Schlafly says most of the GOP candidates who have been designated frontrunners are globalists. According to Schlafly, candidates Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson, John McCain, and Mike Huckabee all "need to wake up" and realize they need the votes of Reagan Democrats to win.

"I think that's a great mistake for the Republicans. I feel that it's very important that they reach out to people on the jobs issue," Schlafly shares. "I was quite disappointed with the debate that was broadcast from Michigan, which is an economically depressed state, and they didn't appear to have any sympathy or compassion for all the millions of people who've lost their jobs that have moved to China."

In the straw poll taken over the weekend in conjunction with the Values Voters Summit, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney topped former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee by a mere 30 votes. Schlafly contends that Huckabee was the winner among conference attendees who heard the weekend's speeches.

"The straw poll was interesting," she offers. "People were able to vote on it even though they weren't here. They could vote for the prior two weeks before the conference took place and before they heard any of the speakers." And in her opinion, that means one cannot say a whole lot about the validity of the poll.

Schlafly believes all that can be deduced from the poll is that so-called "values voters" are still shopping for their candidate. And she says while social conservatives are divided in many ways, they all agree they cannot support a candidate who is not pro-life. The Eagle Forum founder tells OneNewsNow the only GOP hopefuls she is comfortable with are Congressmen Duncan Hunter of California and Tom Tancredo of Colorado.

The multinationals fear Hunter almost as much as the chicoms. But when a multi-national buys up a storied US manufacturer, or a small start up and immediately ships the jobs AND the manufacturing technology to the Peoples Liberation Army, it is time to stamp that sh*t out.

Her day has come, and gone. In real life, she's a petty, self-impressed, pedantic power-seeker. Instead of thinking of the long-term good of the country, by not being a good team player, she (among others of her ilk) is handing the election to Hillary on a silver platter.

I used to think that the Democrats had a monopoly on arrogance and elitism. I can now thank the the "moral" leaders of our party for showing themselves as the self-righteous political rubes that they are.

I'll remember them with in my prayers as I pay higher taxes (oops, "contributions") and wait for my turn in the Hillarycare clinic.

I cannot describe how sick I am of hearing this defeatist attitude - that we can't win an election against a cold, communist witch if we actually try to elect a candidate we like. If we do not have enough Americans left in this country who would vote against Hillary, then we deserve to die. I however, am willing to bet that in an election of Hillary vs. ANYBODY, ANYBODY wins. In fact, this is probably the best time to put someone like Hunter as frontrunner because even a lot of hardcore Democrats simply will not be able to pull the lever for Hillary. By default, we would already have a big numbers advantage.

I think it is pathetic that there are people who are too scared even to try to win a victory for conservatism and the USA. If that witch wins, then we deserve what we'll get. So let's just go ahead and get it on and find out what this country is made of!

Anyone who has bad words for her is a DU plant.”

Yep, and they are revealing themselves tonight.

Too many “conservatives” have lost their fight, and shame on them.

"The last thing on earth to use in an argument with an Evangelical Christian is a quote from the "anti-Christian" Voltaire. "

This anti-Christian Voltaire?

"I die adoring God, loving my friends, not hating my enemies, and detesting superstition."

What a Satanic thing to say, eh?

“Trust me Republican’s like you with a snotty/superior/sarcastic attitude about our values will succede in driving social conservatives out of the party.”

I AM a social conservative. I’m just not going to run and cry if my first choice doesn’t get the nomination. Second, you same people that are screaming that Thompson isn’t a social conservative are nuts. His record and speeches say otherwise. And my original point stands....Dobson and Schlafly speak for no one but themselves, and they’re going to rudely find that out when the vast majority of evangelicals ignore them and vote for one of the frontrunners anyway.

How are the majority of conservative voters truly supposed to successfully and finally come together as one prior to November 4, 2008? This is the ongoing question at this point.

I think you need to study Voltaire further.

I don't like having to do the work for you, but since others may be fooled into thinking that because Voltaire mentions god, he must be Christian, I'll do a little of the work you should have done. Just because someone mentions god  (Muslims and animists may also mention god),  they are not necessarily Christians. The last word in the quote you mentioned is key. Christianity, in fact all Judeo-Christian religion, is what Voltaire considered to be superstition.

Here is a little information on your hero to get you started --

quotes:

"All good Christians glory in the folly of the Cross. Nothing can be more contrary to religion and the clergy than reason and common sense."
[Voltaire, Philosophical Dictionary, 1764]

"Superstition, born of paganism and adopted by Judaism, invested the Christian Church from earliest times. All the fathers of the Church, without exception, believed in the power of magic. The Church always condemned magic, but she always believed in it: she did not excommunicate sorcerers as madmen who were mistaken, but as men who were really in communication with the devil."
[Voltaire, Philosophical Dictionary, 1764]

"Every sensible man, every honest man, must hold the Christian sect in horror. But what shall we substitute in its place? you say. What? A ferocious animal has sucked the blood of my relatives. I tell you to rid yourselves of this beast, and you ask me what you shall put in its place?"
[Voltaire]

In Voltaire's day it was against the law to be an atheist, but that did not stop him from complimenting them:

"Which is more dangerous: fanaticism or atheism? Fanaticism is certainly a thousand times more deadly; for atheism inspires no bloody passion whereas fanaticism does; atheism is opposed to crime and fanaticism causes crimes to be committed."
[Voltaire]

"Atheism is the vice of a few intelligent people."
[Voltaire]

If these quotes are not enough for you, perhaps some lowly liberal wikipedia information will help:

Voltaire's largest philosophical work is the Dictionnaire philosophique, comprising articles contributed by him to the Encyclopédie and several minor pieces. It directed criticism at French political institutions, Voltaire's personal enemies, the Bible, and the Roman Catholic Church.

Voltaire was largely of the opinion that the Bible was
1) an outdated legal and/or moral reference,
2) by and large a metaphor, but one that still taught some good lessons, and
3) a work of Man, not a divine gift.
These beliefs did not hinder his religious practice, however, though it did gain him somewhat of a bad reputation in the Catholic Church. It may be noted that Voltaire was indeed seen as somewhat of a nuisance to many believers, and was almost universally known; Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart wrote to his father the year of Voltaire's death, saying, "The arch-scoundrel Voltaire has finally kicked the bucket...." [2] [my emphasis]

From translated works on Confucianism and Legalism, Voltaire drew on Chinese concepts of politics and philosophy - which were based on rational principles, to look critically at European organized religion and hereditary aristocracy.

Voltaire also displayed, as part of his Dictionnaire philosophique, an inclination towards the ideas of Hinduism and the works of Brahmin priests, asking, "Is it not probable that the Brahmins were the first legislators of the earth, the first philosophers, the first theologians?" His attitudes towards religious institutions are further shown in the criticisms he made of Christian missionaries in India.

You are the first person I have met who has ever tried to use Voltaire as a model Christian.  I can only assume it is because you either don't know Voltaire or you don't know Christianity.  I pray that you come to understand the truth about both.

Schlafly doesn’t seem to realize that the mercantilist beliefs she worships like a religion were disproved by Adam Smith over 200 years ago.

I think characterizing her position as "worshiping" anything is at best simplistic, bordering on intellectually dishonest. It is also not true that Adam Smith disproved anything of the sort nor was it even possible for him to do so.

Adam Smith could not even have imagined such an economy in his wildest dreams let alone disprove or prove anything about this economy one way or the other. Smith, in the agrarian economy of his day, couldn't have imagined the possibilities for transport, communications nor the sheer magnitude of the present day global economy.

If you are comfortable with China cheating on trade and using American dollars to build their "arsenal of oppression", then so be it.

Thanks, LOL! I needed a laugh and when you said, “you liked Mitt or Rudy for national defense” that did the trick. Neither has been in a war, nor do they have a clue as to what one is. They haven’t a clue as to our military capabilities and limitations. You simply like what they “say”, which, is no different than what millions of Americans have said and continue to say.

The electable part of your equation is just proof the media and various campaigns can get you to buy their hype and spin and move you around on the board as they wish. You seem a trusting soul and I really do hope that works out well for you.

Good post.

I have a good friend who worked with Phyllis at Eagle Forum for 3 years...
..Phyllis is the 'real deal'...

..my friend can personally attest to Phyllis credentials and strong character.

Phyllis is not afraid to speak the truth.

I became aware of Phyllis Schlafly when she derailed the ERA amendment!!..

...hearing her speak numerous times and even as a young, non political mom/wife, I became aware, for the first time, that I had a responsibility to pay attention!!

I attended the International Year of the Woman conference in Orlando ('70's) just to be part of the opposition to ERA, NOW, NARAL, etc.

Through Phyllis Schalafly I became educated -(politically) and found courage to be involved!!

I will always appreciate & bless her for opening my eyes to the whole wide world of politics!

Stop being so indefinite and diminishing the import of this critical issue. If you have even a little knowledge of that of which you speak, you realize this goes well beyond toothpaste and toys.

The fact that they are cheating on trade and have been for some time is enough to Fisk your comment. It is hard to find a product not made in China so don’t piss on me with your globalist BS and tell me it’s raining.

Also, before we get so squishy about “Hi-tech jobs, you might want to make sure there are no Fred Thompson’s in the House or Senate who can vote to triple and double the number of foreign hi-tech workers we bring into this country.

And the founding fathers weren’t isolationists!

Nor were they idiots. Free trade for the sake of free trade is idiocy. How have you folks been so easily convinced that those who want better trade deals are isolationists? I am willing to trade with China or anyone else but I am unwilling to allow them to cheat and ignorantly stand by and defend it as "free trade".

To think the same dopes who call Hunter a “protectionist” and say he has “no chance” have put their support behind pro-amnesty, open-border, MFN Commie-loving RINOs like Rooty, Mitt or one of these clowns:

Fred Thompson:

Voted NO on killing a bill for trade sanctions if China sells weapons.

Voted YES on granting normal trade relations status to Vietnam.

Voted YES on permanent normal trade relations with China.

——————————————————————————————John McCain:

Voted YES to give permanent Normal Trade Relations status to China.

Voted to kill an amendment that would require sanctions against China or other countries if they were found to be selling illicit weapons of mass destruction.

Support the One-China policy, don’t weaken it.

Inaction on spying led to Chinese nuclear improvement.

Voted YES on ending Vietnam embargo.

Admit China to WTO based on their concessions.

Voted YES on granting normal trade relations status to Vietnam.

——————————————————————————————Sam Brownback:

Voted YES on killing a bill for trade sanctions if China sells weapons.

Voted YES on granting normal trade relations status to Vietnam.

Voted YES on permanent normal trade relations with China.

******************************************************
Duncan Hunter is the only one not selling us out to our enemies:

“china is cheating on trade and they’re buying ships, planes and missiles with our money, as well as taking millions of jobs.”

Voted YES on deterring foreign arms transfers to China.

Voted NO on Permanent Normal Trade Relations with China.

FRIENDS don’t attack our aircraft and hold our soldiers as hostages:
