Like mythical vampires, 70s-style sex education keeps coming back to Maryland public schools no matter how many times parents protest. “A new sex education curriculum will proceed as planned in Montgomery County public schools,” the Associated Press reported recently. “Montgomery County Circuit Court Judge William Rowan has denied a request from advocacy groups to block schools from teaching the new lessons in middle and high schools this fall.”

I remember sex-ed in 9th grade (1982 for me). I also remember the class pretty much knowing more than the teacher. :)

I guess most didn’t read the rest of the article which consists of one extra sentence stating that sexual orientation will be taught to 8th and 10 grade students for the first time this fall.
Just pass out condoms and contraceptives and let ‘em got at it. /sarc

How much more proof do we need that this government is no longer “of the people, by the people and for the people”?? Apparently, in Maryland, a resounding “no!” from ther people is interpreted by the pols as “we want the same thing only different!”
There was a time in this country when a resounding “no!” from the people was rewspected by the politicians as meaning “no!”.
Not anymore.
Monty County is pretty out there, but they do seem to have some very good watch dog groups in place; they seem to be well organized and very efficient.
At some point I suppose that one would get tired of fighting the good fight, but more power to them.
This was in the mid-1980's, when AIDS was just starting to become a hot topic, so there was a lot of discussion about the disease and speculation on how it could be spread (they weren't sure about several of the methods at the time).
As far as sex education went, it was pretty much "talk to your parents."
In this ONE respect, I’m glad I’m old.
