True, but in marginal areas, pre-soaking your home can save it from destruction.

Unfortunately, with the amount of rain SoCal has received over the past year (one of the driest on record) and the single-digit humidity, water use like that would be frowned upon to say the least.

Also a home that dry would take a LOT of "presoaking". The ex had to leave SoCal for NY yesterday when I spoke with her. She said it was darned near impossible to breathe even at LAX.

Ah, memories...leaf-shaped ashes on the car, being able to stare directly at the orange sun at noon downtown...

Now all I have to contend with is dust and hot weather.
