The Boston Globes lead: "The eight Republican candidates for president held a fiery debate last night filled with charges and confrontations about who is a true conservative and "real Republican" as they defended their stands on issues such as abortion, gay marriage, and taxes."
The Los Angeles Times headlines the Thompson-Giuliani skirmishes. And it adds, "With groans and cheers, more than 3,000 spectators in the convention hall punctuated the scrappy back-and-forth among the candidates."
The New York Times: The debate stood out for the intensity and personal nature of the exchanges, as Republicans tried to distinguish themselves a tactic that risked highlighting the unhappiness among conservatives with much of the field.
USA Today adds that the GOP hopefuls clashed Sunday over one of their party's most basic questions: Who is the most conservative? Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee cited their conservative executive experience, while John McCain and Fred Thompson touted conservative Senate voting records and all took shots at the presumed Democratic frontrunner.
The Wall Street Journal: Indeed, much of the debate was devoted to how the candidates would go about defeating Mrs. Clinton, a Democratic presidential candidate who currently holds a commanding lead in national and early voting state polls.
The New York Post calls Clinton the roast of the town.
Fred Thompson stood out to the Politico's Martin: "Thompson, showing a degree of passion unseen in his first debate appearance two weeks ago, offered perhaps the toughest charges of the night."(continued)

I think FRed found his mojo. Last night was his coming out, and I cant wait to see more of it.He does seem to know how to pace himself. I expect him to ratchet it up again next debate.
From what I've seen of your efforts so far, it would certainly be an improvement.
With that...this post can kiss my ass. Before or after you remove your head from it?
He does that in every debate! I'm surprised the media hasn't called him on it. (okay--I shouldn't be surprised).
If you read any (or all) of the debate transcripts and look at the questions, Rudy never answers any of them! ("hillary"... "9/11"... "terrorism"... His answers are anything other than the question asked, but all designed to yank at the emotions of the voters). It's disgusting that he gets away with it.
Buh-bye!
Enjoy.
I won't apologize anyway, as I see no need to apologize for debunking lies.
That dips*&t is no Reagan.
I never said he was Reagan. As for calling him a dipsh!t, keep it up. Watching you get pwn3d by the mods will be rather lulzworthy.
I am a supporter of Fred, but man, he has got to get exposure or it’s going to be over for him real soon. Our local conservative radio host (KVI Kirby Wilber) who is a BIG Time supporter of Fred was at the debate. Fred turned down a request to be interviewed by Kirby, while Rudy accepted it. What a chance Fred had to excite NW conservative voters like me and the tens of thousands of KVI listeners. A chance missed I’m afraid.
My car still carries a Fred in 08 bumper sticker, but he is going to have to start living of to the expectations we all had in him pretty soon.
I was going to check your posting history to see if you had any redeeming qualities, but you seem to have met the great ZOTmaster! I find it hillarious this was your last post just before the lightening struck. :D
LOL Is tonight a full moon?
If today’s any indication, I don’t understand how he’s managed to stay active as long as he has. I suppose I could look at his posting history, but I’m not really that interested : )
I was curious about the same thing. Unfortunately once he's Mod dust, you can't look at his history anymore. He's been pulverized.
Hanity and Wallace SERIOUSLY tried to help Giuliani.
They both denied the question of Marriage Amendment to Thompson.
In the Debate floor and in the spin room.
very sleazy.
Hannity is a useless RuTard, and his radio show sucks ass.
I’m not voting for him, either, but ya’ know what...EVERY one of my conservative friends, and they are all very conservative, to the core...are voting for Rudy if he wins the primary.
They all say that Hilliary is so evil, so hate-filled towards conservative, Christian Americans, that it is imperative to do whatever it takes to stop her, including voting for a pro-abort, gun-grabbing adulterer in the genera election!!
Yikes!
Ed
Ouch....That’s gonna leave a mark
It seemed to me that Rudy is concise and strong on his stands and ducking is not really true when it comes to national security, tax cuts, border control and homeschooling or adoption. Seems to me Fred was still finding his feet and finally smiled once at the end. Mitt looked a bit confused. Mike was solid as surprisingly was old John. But, the people who think Fred won the debate were thinking with their hearts. Mike, Rudy, and then the others was the order of winners. If Rudy wins, Mike has to be his VP. If Mike wins, who knows what guy he will take.
