UPDATE: The city of Malibu is advising residents in Puerco Canyon to begin evacuating due to a wildfire driven by powerful winds. This area is north of Pacific Coast Highway and about 1 mile west of Pepperdine University. Residents along the beach on Malibu Road may soon be evacuated. Pacific Coast Highway is closed between Kanan-Dume Road and Topanga Canyon. Residents are advised to head to the west. Evacuation centers are being set up in the Zuma Beach area.
A wildfire driven by powerful winds in the Malibu Hills this morning threatened a university, destroyed at least one home and forced the evacuation of hundreds more, authorities said.

There are some LAFD strike teams heading to Orange County also...heard them on the 55 freeway
Nice to hear from ya! These disasters do take a lot of everyone and everything! I just read that three seniors died of natural causes in S.D. County during, or just after, being evacuated. All three were in their nineties. It's tough at any age going through this.
When she told me that, I couldn’t believe it...it did NOT feel that hot...
Thank you.....very much!!!
What firefighting equipment does the National Guard have to begin with? The most I can guess is bulldozers, probably useful in tandem with backburning, but I doubt that’s what got sent to Iraq...
Fire in Julian, hit hard in the 2003 fire. Areas near Pine Hills Road and Wynola Rd are being evacuated. Julian is an historic gold mining town in the norteast county, now well known for apples, and apple pies.
You’ll be relieved to know that Anderson Cooper just said in an offhand way (while promoting the upcoming special on CNN tonight on the planet in peril- cue drama music) that all this- droughts, winds, ALL of it can be squarely pinned on global warming...
Never mind the Santa Ana winds have existed forever- never mind downed power lines and arson started this one- someonhow, in Anderson Cooper’s mind- it’s GLOBAL WARMING...
Slide fire making a run south from Running Springs towards Highland like it did in 2003. I live in the next town south (Redlands) so hopefully it will not make it all the way down.
2003 it got to the Santa Ana river bed and embers were blowing across our neighborhood
Roger Hedgecock on KFI640 right now...
C130s, equipped to hold (and drop) fire retardant and/or water. NG from CO, WY and NC are sending in C30’s to help So Cal fight the fires.

He just said there is so much donated food/water coming into shelters, they’ve had to turn some away, directing it to other areas.
We lost our Topanga (Waveguide) repeater today when fire burned the telephone lines. LACFD now without radio command in Topanga. FS69 area.
Working on microwave link now
WOw, that’s a lot of land and homes.
I can see homes burning now in Running Springs from my roof with the binos when the smoke is right.
Running Springs and Fredalba have dodge the fire bullet for years and finally got hit.
Thank you for all your great updates, Karl. Those totals are very discouraging.
Agreed, they instantly blame it on GW...mostly it is millions of additional people building subdivisions up chaparral covered canyons. Whole new towns have sprung up i.e. “Rancho Santa Margarita” & “Rancho Bernardo”. That along with suppression of natural files in the past leads to much bigger ones now.
I didn’t know any film shooting was going on in Orange County....thanks.,
Cooler temps, on-shore breeze coming...Inland empire in the coming days will have lots of smoke, all will be pushed back east from the ocean.
Just damn....big numbers...
