SACRAMENTO, Oct. 20 (UPI) -- California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's office announced this week the state will sue the federal government over a delayed emissions law.
Schwarzenegger's press secretary, Aaron McLear, said the lawsuit would target President George Bush's administration for repeatedly delaying the state's request for a law limiting auto emissions, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Saturday.
McLear said Friday that after waiting for an official decision from the Environmental Protection Agency since December 2005 on the matter, a lawsuit will be filed Wednesday by state officials.
"There's really no excuse at this point why we shouldn't be granted a waiver," McLear said of the EPA approval the state needs to implement more stringent environmental laws.
California Attorney General Jerry Brown said having a prominent governor such as Schwarzenegger file such a suit should bring the necessary attention to the state's environmental plight.
"The most prominent Republican governor suing the Bush administration sends a powerful message, which I hope will influence Congress," he told the Chronicle.
Unfortunately, the people most responsible for putting Arnold in office are Bush, Rove, and Parsky.
First they tried to push Richard Riordan down the California Republicans’ throats. Then they sabotaged Bill Simon, who would have been an excellent governor and experienced administrator. Then they pushed Arnold in, using the referendum so they were able to avoid any primary that might have defeated him.
Now they have what they wanted. I hope they like it.
Ahnuld: Go back to acting. At least there you can do no harm.
Try telling that to the many women that he “allegedly” fondled during his acting days.
California is suing because they aren’t granted a waiver to create moonbat emission laws? HAHAHAHA!
The inmates really are running the asylum in Calipornia.
Perhaps the Feds should sue Calipornia for constantly wasting the courts time by passing laws that violate the constitution.
Schwarzenegger had many, many people fooled into believeing he was a Republican. Anyway, Bush should just let California do whatever it wants to do. Who cares?
Enjoy your walk!
He’s been a great disappointment too. It’s past time he was booted out of the party.
Sue Sue Sue !!
What a great mistake Schwarzenegger has proved to be.
BumP
Arnie is an ass. Remind me to not vote for his twin, Rudy Giuliani.
Goes to prove that the “lesser of two evils” can be
disastrous.
DANG JIM!
You almost had me fall out of chair laughing with your most insightful comment.
I GUARANTEE RUDY DOES NOT GET MY VOTE.
>>California is suing because they arent granted a waiver to create moonbat emission laws? HAHAHAHA!<<
Geee, the citizens of California must be in tears over that one... No more stringent and mandatory (and EXPENSIVE!) emission checks on their cars...
How ghastly.
Phooey on RINOs.
I’m glad you mentioned Bill Simon, who was absolutely and brutally torpedoed as a result of the govt’ (the Treasury Dep’t) revoking the deal they had worked out with him. That was really a vicious move, and I know he sued them, to what effect I do not know. Do you?
I agree, from all that I know, Bill Simon would probably have been an excellent governor.
Most of the time when you look at the republican and the democrat its almost a Hobson's choice.
We are more often than not reduced to being motivated to vote in an effort to defeat the worse of two problematic candidates.
Davis was a know disaster but Arnie offered the possibility of an improvement and its still likely that he isn't quite as bad as Davis would be.
You did your best - that's all you can do.
Look at it as training for the 2008 presidential election.
The state of California can, and has instituted stricter laws than the federal ones. They just want the federal government, that is the rest of the country, to pay for the enforcement and other costs of their stricter laws.
Don't be so sure. Bill Simon backed Arnold and is currently shilling for Giuliani.
