You and both. I believe Gen Mattis is beyond political influence. But the timing of this fourth-star confirmation hearing leaves plenty of room to wonder.

The legal system, even in the military, is not about justice. It’s about punishing both sides for causing a problem - even if one side is totally innocent. It’s also about making a compromise rather than giving justice to the innocent.
It’s like that same stupidity we saw on the playground as kids. Whenever a fight occurred, both got punished, not the one who actually started it. You defend yourself, you get punished - supposedly because the Leftists want no violence whatsoever.
