Undoubtedly, it was the worst day of Charles Riecher's life. The 47 year-old retired Air Force colonel picked up a copy of the October 1st Washington POST and learned his "no-show job" for a Pentagon-favored "non-profit" Pennsylvania corporation had just been exposed.
Nearly $30,000 for no work at all. Before his suicide 13 days later, he admitted to the newspaper that "I really didn't do anything for CRI (Commonwealth Research Institute). I got a paycheck from them."
Indeed he did, while waiting to assume his new duties as the number two man in the Air Force's procurement office. And that windfall came to Riecher from a corporation closely linked to controversial Congressman John Murtha.

He committed suicide over $30,000? Life is cheap.
What’s worse is that he risked his freedom over $30,000.00. That’s incomprehensible to me.
Military Corruption Dot Com reads like an old Pravda. A few facts and a lot of speculation.
I think he “committed suicide” like Vince foster “committed suicide.”
What is in dispute here factually? Can you be specific in your analysis or is this just bias or your part because you can’t handle bad news?
While you’re at it, Sarge, why don’t you explain the Jill Metzger scandal!—if you can’t do that, why don’t you tell us why she’s being retired without a line of duty determination! The veterans, military retirees, taxpayers and voters would like to know!

These quotes are from someone I trust completely. Now why would someone put a hit on such a good man?
I can’t answer those questions but I think you will agree with me that “Houston we have a problem” and this and the Metzger mess need to be looked at and explained.
After all, we the taxpayers and citizens paid their salaries.
His statement "I really didn't do anything for CRI (Commonwealth Research Institute). I got a paycheck from them." doesn't fit with someone who would be trying to hide something or be ashamed at what he did. A 'payolla eruption' from someone as candid as him would threaten anyone else he knew of who'd done something similar.

This one is more like Admiral Boorda’s suicide.
It's not just $30,000. A conviction would have meant the loss of his military retirement pay and benefits. Now that he is dead, his wife will keep his survivor benefit plan retirement pay and all the other military retirement benefits that go to widows.
Just maybe he felt so guilty about thar possibility, he committed suicide for the benefit of his family.
I like this “Japanese” approach to accountability. Now if only Ms Pelosi would take the same attitude regarding her failure with the genocide resolution.

I’m sorry, but if you are being serious... the body was in the park well before dark so all those rug fibers got on his clothing from an afternoon tryst! And yes, both were likely arkansided like Borda!
He did not do anything wrong.
If anyone felt guilty and wanted him to be dead, it wasn’t him. Suicide is for cowards. His statements to the WP are pretty good evidence that he was no coward shrinking from exposure. So what else was in the news the week of October 1? Any other dead bodies in the last month?
Taking $30,000 for a no-show jopb with a company that he would be doing business with in his new procurement position isn't wrong?
It is far more believable that he knew he'd be convicted of some crime and his wife would be devastaed financially. Maybe he cared more for his wife's financial future than his own life.
I don’t know anything about Metzger, other than what I just read on Wikipedia. Do you think there is a connection, or are you just wanting answers about both of these individuals?

I have worked in procurement for close to 30 years. I have never accepted a gift that was worth more than a gift I would buy for a casual friend’s birthday. Typically the gifts are caps, coffee mugs and other cheap promotional crap.
I will not go deep sea fishing, on golf junkets or shoot skeet in tournaments. If we go out to lunch we eat at the same places my co-workers and I frequent.
My company trusts me and I could not live with myself if I stole from them.
Maybe that is why they trust me.
