I agree on SOMETHING with the slick haired former gov of Massatwosh*ts. OK, I partially agree. He said he’d approve of another world body. Screw that, let it die.

The best candidate?

Romney was the most liberal governor in American history.

You calling him “the best” makes me wonder about your own position on the political spectrum.

You could only say that if you consider the implementation of gay marriage, socialized medicine with taxpayer-funded abortions, the homosexualization of the public schools, the signing of a permanent assault weapons ban, the appointment of more Dems and Independents than Republicans to the bench, etc., all of which Mitt Romney was responsible for between 2002 and 2006, to be GOOD.

As I’ve said all along, this man is a raging socialist, and this quite nicely states the whats and why fors.

FReepers need to read what Mitt really said. All Mitt would do is...

Puhleeeze..

Many Freepers read AND heard what Romney said, and think it was spot on.

Do you really think Freepers are so thick that we can't decipher or read what Romney said.

Several people I know who watched the debate all agreed that Mitt Romney is over-stylized, slick, and comes across as untrustworthy, pandering and changeable on positions not to mention decidedly un-presidential.

Your addition to the headline is misleading. Romney says:

"We should withdraw from the United Nations Human Rights Council."

He never said withdraw from the UN in toto.

I’m calling Ron Paul dividends - it can be seen across all of the other Republican candidates as well. Thankfully, the only policies failing to experience this form of osmosis are related to foreign policy - the main area in which Ron Paul falls short.

Anyway, I am extremely happy to be hearing these and similar comments from Thompson and Romney - it at least helps get these ideas disseminated. For all of the folks who take pride in poo-pooing the “third-tier” candidacies of Ron Paul, Tom Tancredo, and Duncan Hunter, take note: they do not have to win to shape the race, shape the candidates, and cause deviation of America from its leftist course. Duncan Hunter imprinted the China and immigration memes; Tancredo has been pushing immigration and cultural identity; Ron Paul has been pushing almost every conservative issue (though I wish he would do so with more gusto than he does his foreign policy madness). I hope each of these candidates stay in the race as long as possible, and continue to shame/coerce/make more palatable/convince or otherwise inculcate within the “top-tier” Republicans notions of conservatism. The only other forces (Dems, MSM) are those pulling them to the left.

Congrats to Romney for seeing the light wrt the UN (assuming he is sincere).

You are right. He is the best candidate and he did govern conservatively. And, perhaps saying that we should withdraw our support permanently from that ridiculous human rights council is obvious, but thank goodness someone is saying it.

Rebuttal to falsehoods posted on this thread:
Romney in Massachusetts was fighting upstream against raging left-wing rapids. This could explain why John J. Miller, the national political reporter of National Review, has written that “a good case can be made that Romney has fought harder for social conservatives than any other governor in America, and it is difficult to imagine his doing so in a more daunting political environment.”

Massachusetts Citizens For Life Executive Director Marie Sturgis: "Having Governor Romney in the corner office for the last four years has been one of the strongest assets the pro-life movement has had in Massachusetts." (Kathryn Jean Lopez, "An Early Massachusetts Primary," National Review, 1/10/07)

Massachusetts Citizens For Life Pioneer Valley Chapter Chairman Kevin Jourdain: "Mitt Romney was a great Governor, who served with honor and distinction. But most importantly, he was a pro-life Governor. He vetoed a number of pro-abortion pieces of legislation and made many pro-life appointments. He was always there for us." (Kevin Jourdain, Remarks, Agawam, MA, 5/10/07)

He is the best candidate and he did govern conservatively.

I'll restrain my laughter, and ask you why then he implemented gay marriage, signed socialized medicine complete with taxpayer-funded abortions, signed a permanent "assault" weapons ban, and thoroughly homosexualized the public schools? How can you describe that as "governing conservatively"?

Romney states the obvious.

It is obvious to us, but without people on the world stage having the courage to say it over and over, the average person will never get it. It's not just the message either. It's the delivery of the message and the right messenger committed to follow through.

Can we withdraw even if we don’t have a seat.

Doesn’t everyone else have observer status?

Oh EV - it's hopeless with you. The state-funded abortions and the AWB were already in place when Romney got there. He was governing an electorate - 75% democrat - which supported those things. He is good, but he's not a Superman.

As all the accolades prove, Romney fought the 85% liberal legislature and sided with conservative principles whenever the chance arose.

I know none of the things he did were good enough for you and you totally discount all of his efforts. However, those that worked beside him are forever grateful. I tend to put more emphasis on their opinions when deciding to trust him, than yours.

Heading back to class just wanted to comment on this.

Since 10/24/1945, to be precise.

United Nations Participation Act

pb...He never said withdraw from the UN in toto.

To withdraw from the un in toto, we would have to repeal the "united nations Participation Act."

I wish one of our leaders would actually mention the name of the act itself, then we'd know they were serious.

Ditto that!
