Huckabee: Get Rid Of The IRS
CBS Broadcasting Inc. ^ | 10/18/2007

Posted on 10/18/2007 4:42:05 AM PDT by dano1

Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee says he wants to get rid of the IRS.

The former Arkansas governor thinks the country should "completely end the $10 billion IRS."

Huckabee also says excessive taxation, excessive regulation and excessive litigation is leading to job migration in this country.

According to Huckabee the IRS is beyond repair. "I come from the deep south in Arkansas, and we have a feeling if you can't fix it with duct tape and WD-40, it can't be fixed."

If the IRS was canned, Huckabee said April 15 would just be another spring day, not the most dreaded day of the year.

OK Huckster, I beleive your premise. what path are you trying to lead me down? “fair” or “flat” or something else?

since the government needs revenue, there will always be an IRS in som eform - what is your idea Mr. Huckabee?

If we get rid of the IRS, what weapon will the government have to use against its own people?

How will they punish the peons? His plan seems incomplete.

Mike Huckabee says he wants to get rid of the IRS.

Yeh yeh yeh. Like that is going to happen.

How many bureaucracies have we ever gotten rid of????

This makes Huckabee sound like Hillary -- promise them anything think they might fall for to get elected.

What do you favor in the place of the Infernal Revenue Service? I keep looking at this and really can’t decide myself which way we should travel. Flat with no exemptions or withholding seems the most “fair” to me, but what do I know?

He doesn’t say what he’d replace it with. Flat tax? Sales tax? What?

Such simplistic plans rarely if ever, get any traction.

He has a point; if only he really believed this himself which I doubt.

“Huckabee says he wants to get rid of the IRS”

And people in Hell want Ice Water. I don’t think their is a true conservative alive that would not want to abolish the IRS, nor a Republican high-office candidate that at one time or another has said the same thing on the campaign trail. But saying it and doing it are two different things. If by some chance Huckabee gets the nomination I would not place high hopes that you would be able to check off “getting rid of the IRS” as one of his accomplishments.

According to Huckabee:

"The FairTax will replace the Internal Revenue Code with a consumption tax, like the taxes on retail sales forty-five states and the District of Columbia have now. All of us will get a monthly rebate that will reimburse us for taxes on purchases up to the poverty line, so that we're not taxed on necessities."

"That means people below the poverty line won't be taxed at all. We'll be taxed on what we decide to buy, not what we happen to earn. We won't be taxed on what we choose to save or the interest those savings earn. The tax will apply only to new goods, so we can reduce our taxes further by buying a used car or computer."

“All of us will get a monthly rebate”
Which will require a new bureaucracy about the size of the IRS to administer?

All those who say that we can’t get rid of the IRS because the government needs revenue, in my opinion, have been completely brainwashed by the liberals.

Tell me how the country survived prior to the creation of the IRS and the income tax?

The IRS is one of the newest division in the government having only been around for 60 or so years, and since then has done nothing more than to force citizens into forced servitude to the bureaucrats in in Washington.

The IRS is used as a political weapon by many (Clinton comes to mind) and has ruined many lives because of it’s arcane nature that the average American has a hard time comprehending what is and isn’t legal tax wise.

Those who use the excuse that the government needs the IRS to collect revenue have bought into the liberal excuses, those who believe we can do nothing about it have given the liberals the exact tools they need to drag us quietly into socialism, you gave them your apathy towards all their ideas, you gave them your unwillingness to fight for you beliefs because you believe you can do nothing.

I’m not saying I support Huckabee, I’m not voting for him (and I’m definitely not voting for Paul), what I’m saying is maybe it’s about time we stop whining and crying and buying into the liberal brain washing that is so pervasive that it’s seeped into many of those here at Free Republic, and maybe we should start doing more to show people how powerful their votes are, show them the candidates that will bring us closer to our Founder’s ideals and further from the socialism or communism that the left wants to force on us like a yoke on a work horse, we are not the government’s ATM, forced to give any time they demand, we are the American voters who are tasked with ensuring that our government serves us and not us serve them.

And as I see things, we have done an extremely poor job.

But the current system is? What's your solution?

According to Huckabee:

"If you buy a bottle of domestic wine, you're paying the taxes/compliance/matching payments of all the folks who produced the grapes, the wine, the bottle, the cork, the label. If you buy a bottle of French wine, the producers had their Value Added Tax rebated to them when the wine was exported. So French consumers pay those taxes, but you don't. Our current tax system puts our goods at a disadvantage both here and overseas. Other governments give their goods an advantage on the world market, an advantage estimated at 18% compared to American goods.i>
