MIDLAND, Texas - The 18-month old girl pulled from a backyard well two decades ago is now a young wife and mother — one waiting to collect donations given to her during her ordeal that are expected to total $1 million or more.

The anniversary of Jessica McClure's rescue passed Tuesday like almost every other day in the 21-year-old's life, with no public comment from her about the event that once captivated viewers around the world.

The young wife and mother is living quietly in this West Texas oil patch city, the same one where she fell into the backyard well.

"Jessica's just been a wonderful, wonderful mother," said her father, Chip McClure. "That's always been Jessica's dream, to be a stay-at-home mom."

In 3 1/2 years, however, her quiet existence might change when all the donations sent to her when she was a baby mature into a payment of $1 million or more.

Wow this feels like it happened an eternity ago...glad to her she's living well these days, sorry to hear about the rescurer who killed himself because he couldn't return to normalcy after the event.

If I remember correctly, Nancy Reagan and Raisa Gorbachev watched the resuce on the TV in the White House together and both cried when she was brought up. I don’t know if it was true or just MSM hype........

Really odd....it only seems like a few years ago to me too.

Some lawyer (or several) probably needs to get involved with this in order to siphon off 1/3rd, and then it’ll be all clear.

We had the great crash of 1987 on Wall Street too, and Reagan had some sort of operation that week.

I suspect that story was true. The MSM never would have portrayed Nancy Reagan as having an ounce on compassion unless they had to!

We had the great crash of 1987 on Wall Street too

I remember that day. The Navy blew up some oil rigs in the Persian Gulf being used by the Iranians to attack shipping, but the news skipped over that to yap all evening about the stock market. < /college kid who wanted to see explosions mode>

If true, it was probably for Mrs. Gorbachev’s benefit and not Mrs. Reagan’s........

I was boozer and scholastic partier in college twenty years.

Lucky guy. My parents made me graduate after only 4 1/2. I should have changed majors more than once, I guess.

Wow this feels like it happened an eternity ago..

Not to me. When you get up there in age, it's like it happened just a couple of years ago.

I remember that so well. I remember that little darlin’ was singing “Winnie the Pooh” down there.

That was a heartwrenching situation. I was so glad that she was OK.

The article says she plans to turn it into a trust fund for her son.
I was glued to the coverage of this that year, the second year of my marriage. How I cried when she was brought up.
Here’s is an odd link of that event on youtube, at least it shows that moment.
