Normally, when a female journalist writes an article like this about another woman she is savaged for her betrayal.

The article adds insult to the injury by being written in a deeply-stereotyped, fundamentally unserious manner.

Fred Thompson never dated Margaret Carlson. The truth is she stalked him at every opportunity, trying to get him to date her. FRT has publicly denied any romantic involvement with her, but he did it in a very gentlemanly way.

Subtext isn’t really about Jeri. What TNR REALLY wants to get across (to cultural conservatives — so as to repel them from Fred-support) is, FRED FOOLED AROUND ON HIS FIRST WIFE.

The excerpt doesn’t go into any proof of that. Just innuendo. “Oh, it was well-known around Washington.” That sort of crap.

What the publication of such articles tells me is, THE LIBS FEAR FRED, whether they are correct to do so or not.

I did not know that. I’ve heard several times that she was one of his girlfriends, but I didn’t really believe it.

I have read alot of the dirt thrown FRT’s way, but never before this piece have I seen an allegation that he cheated on his first wife. They divorced amicably in 1985, and his ex-wife is on record as supporting him for President.

Truly corny. Well at least Fred didn’t marry his cousin, divorce her, marry another liberal woman, have a couple kids, cheat on her in public, make a public announcement he was going to divorce her, try to move in his social climbing hussy in the same house as the liberal woman he was dumping, upset his kids, dump her kid, and marry the social climbing hussy and try to pass the hussy off as first lady material.
