Egyptian boxers abandon team in U.S. (disappeared)

CAIRO (Reuters) - Two Egyptian heavyweight boxers abandoned their team-mates and disappeared after arriving in the United States for the World Boxing Championships, the official Middle East News Agency (MENA) said on Tuesday.

Wael Talaat, director of the Egyptian Boxing Association, said Emad Abdel-Halim and Ahmed Samir went missing shortly after the team arrived at a U.S. airport, the agency reported.

Talaat said the association would consider suspending the two athletes permanently.

He did not say why the two boxers had fled, but several Egyptian athletes, mainly boxers and wrestlers, have done the same in the past to seek better career opportunities in developed countries.

Many athletes in Egypt complain the state sports authorities give more financial support to soccer than other sports despite the national team's failure to reach the World Cup finals since 1990.

The World Boxing Championships are due to take place in Chicago between October 23 and November 3.

Hmmm...I'm not so sure I'm okay with disappearing heavyweight Egyptian boxers running around the U.S.

I have never heard of an Egyptian heavyweight boxer before today. To me, they are illegals. They will now say they will be persecuted if sent back and get asylum. I am not an American because of the “career opportunities” available but because of thousands of years of ties to this land and a love for its liberties, freedoms and values. I am not big on someone coming here for “career opportunities”.

I suspect they are Jihadis and have already met up with their local AQ controllers.

No doubt we are going to be hearing about them again soon.

They saw a chance for a better life and they took it. I wouldn’t be surprised if they turn out to be loyal America lovers. What’s so hard to understand or believe? They are hard working professionals at their chosen career. They are the type of people we WANT to have immigrate to America.

You’re only hoping that’s the case. Me, I doubt it, if for no other reason than there has never been an Egyptian boxer — hell, ANY moslem boxer — who was anywhere near being good enough to fight professionally. In today’s world, when it comes to islam and moslems I assume they are true believers and want to slice off our heads.

If everyone would just ding ding ding a bell we could watch for swarthy looking middle easterners at titty bars that bounce around and raise their hands.

Cassius Clay/Mohammad Ali. But anyway, they should be kicked out for illegal immigration.

Well, at this point I'm assuming that they are just hiding out from their Egyptian handlers, waiting for the dust to settle, and will then start immigration proceedures. If these guy don't turn up in a few weeks, then I'll change my initial assumption. At this time, however, I'm going with the theory that they are professionals just looking for a better place to live (like those doctors in England). Right now we're all just guessing, and I'm quite willing to accept that I may be wrong.

Well, it would be one thing if they showed up at the State Department seeking assylum for genuine political reasons...otherwise it’s just more illegal immigration, and from a country with serious terrorist ties.

Nice of them to abandon medieval savagery to come and live in a civilized country. I just hope that they adopt civilization and drop the savagery.

“Cassius Clay/Mohammad Ali.”

Oh, come on. You don’t really consider Cassius Clay/Muhammed Ali a moslem, do you? He’s a Farrakhan moslem, and moslems the world over don’t see Farrakhan or his cult as anything but an insult to islam (not that it takes much to insult islam).
