Air America Host Randi Rhodes Mugged

Air America Radio host Randi Rhodes was mugged near her Manhattan apartment Sunday night, losing several teeth in a brutal attack that has knocked her off the air while she recuperates, fellow host Jon Elliott announced on his show early Tuesday morning.
"It is with sadness that tonight I inform you that my Air America colleague Randi Rhodes was assaulted last night while walking her dog near her New York City home," Elliott told his listeners this morning on Air America.
The attack took place near the corner of 39th Street and Park Avenue, Elliot said.
Because Rhodes was wearing a jogging suit and had neither a purse nor jewelry, Elliott speculated that "this does not appear to me to be a standard grab the money and run mugging."
"Is this an attempt by the right wing hate machine to silence one of our own?" he asked on the air. "Are we threatening them? Are they afraid that we're winning? Are they trying to silence intimidate us?"
Rhodes has been with Air America Radio since it launched in 2004, becoming a mainstay of the national liberal radio network. Her show airs from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern weekdays. Lionel filled in for her show Monday afternoon, but no announcement was made of the reason.
An Air America representative confirmed Tuesday morning that Rhodes was mugged. Calls have been made to Rhodes and the New York City police department's press office, and as more details become available they'll be reported here.

Assaults against women began when women gained legal equality? Is that a joke?
One can not assert equality while simultaniously asking for protection and escape the effects of dissonance.

NEW YORK: In the wake of the ghastly attacks on at least 24 women in Central Park this Sunday, Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (Manhattan, Queens) and leading women’s rights leaders condemned hate crimes today, and urged passage of three Federal bills that would establish a more comprehensive program to fight hate crimes and gender-related violence.
Violent crimes motivated by gender bias, race, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, disability, or national origin, are extremely unjust because they create a climate of fear that keeps a particular segment of society from participating fully and freely in society.

“This Sunday, all of us were shocked and horrified as women began to tell their stories of being surrounded, stripped, robbed and harassed by a gang of men in Central Park. There is only one thing that unites these victims. They are from different countries, different ages, different races. But all of them were women. The mob went after these victims simply because they were women - and they humiliated them because they were women.

Before AAR, she was a local talk show host on a Palm Beach County radio station. She probably had more people listening to her there than she did going “national”

A question that has not been asked given that she was not hospitalized, is whether she has health insurance provided by her employer, AAR? It would be really funny if she is one of America’s uninsured given her mailing address.
