Well, we can lay this at the feet of Nancy Pelosi.

The timing of the resolution was stupid, and I'm sure Pelosi was pleased that it caused some DIPLOMATIC friction. She feels like she poked Bush in the eye, which always brightens her day.

But the Turks have been dying to snuff out as many Kurds as possible, for a long time. There have been many, many cross-border incursions over the last 10 years.

This potential particular Turkish attack has NOTHING to do with the Pelosi resolution. If you think that it does, then you have to believe that the Turks are so childish, flighty, and unstable that they are barely rational.

They have interests in the region. Occasionally, these interests coincide with ours. Don't confuse this with making them our buddies, because they just aren't. The Kurds have been better allies in this war, for much longer, than the Turks ever will be.

The Kurds have followed their self-interest just like Turkey has, as it relates to this war. The Kurds were glad to cooperate because it gave legitimacy to their semi-autonomy. Yes they are still a part of Iraq, but they are pretty much running things in their region as I understand it.

Turkey has allowed us overflights and ground routes. For all the talk of Turkey not being our friend, they have none-the-less been allowing us to use their assetts for our purposes. Now maybe it hasn’t been to the extent we would like, but they have been helping.

It has wanted to enter the Kurdish north since the war started. It has not done so at our request. It’s citizens have been attacked and it has every right to be angry about it.

Overall, I don’t disagree with your comments as much as this probably seems, but I just don’t think it’s right to treat Turkey like Syria or Iran. It simply isn’t the same and we should acknowledge that.
