Rush Limbaugh Earns Big Money From Senate Letter Chastising Him

Sunday, October 14, 2007

Rush Limbaugh

WASHINGTON — A letter sent to Rush Limbaugh's boss demanding he be chastised for comments he made on the air about "phony soldiers" is now on the auction block, and the latest bid is a cool $41,400.

One hundred percent of the money raised from the eBay auction will go to educate the children of Marines and law enforcement officers who died while on duty, the auction says.

Bids will continue until Friday for the letter signed by 41 Democratic senators and sent on Oct. 2 to Mark P. Mays, president of Clear Channel, the parent company of the conservative talk show host's radio broadcast. The winning bidder will get the letter, the "Halliburton briefcase in which this letter is secured 24 hours a day;" a letter of thanks from Limbaugh and a picture of the talkmeister announcing the auction at a speech in Philadelphia delivered last Thursday.

"This historic document may well represent the first time in the history of America that this large a group of U.S. senators attempted to demonize a private citizen by lying about his views. As such, it is a priceless memento of the folly of (Senate Majority Leader) Harry Reid and his 40 senatorial co-signers," reads the eBay announcement.

As of midday Sunday, 95 bids by 36 bidders had been made on the letter, whose opening bid price was $100.

Playing up the controversy over comments Limbaugh made last month in which he used the term "phony soldiers," seemingly to describe U.S. troops opposed to the Iraq war, Limbaugh told his audience last week

Rush is vetting all bidders to insure that no Dems may bid.

The article also neglects to point out that Rush has challenged Dingy Harry to match the amount raised by the auction

I should check. I’d wager Feinstein and Boxer are on that list.

I know I saw Boxer on that list. Can’t say about Feinstein, but I bet she is on it, too.

I think you missed this.  It was present in the linked article.

"I would like to issue this challenge to Senator Reid and the 41 senators who signed his letter. You say you support the military. You say you're big, and you think it's patriotic, and that I was unpatriotic. Well, I would like for each of you, Senator Reid, and the 40 senators who signed, to match whatever the winning bid is. Show us your support for the U.S. military by all 41 of you pro-military people, Democrats in the Senate, match whatever the winning bid is and send that amount to the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation," Limbaugh said. Limbaugh sits on the board of the foundation that has dispersed $29 million for scholarships.

Yep. Ken is my Congress-dork. Yes I’m embarrassed.

btw: directly from the e-bay web site, where the current bid is $41,300:

The entire proceeds of this auction.. the entire high bid... will be donated to The Marine Corps - Law Enforcement Foundation, a registered charity which provides financial assistance to the children of fallen Marines and federal law enforcement officers. Rush Limbaugh serves on the Board of this organization and has been active on its behalf. All costs of this auction will be paid by the seller... every dollar of your winning bid will go to this charity, which has to date distributed over $29 million.

Can’t get much clearer than that. Mega-kudos to Rush. This is brilliant.

Will there be a Senate hearing or perhaps an investigative panel of has beens to make political news out of an issue not worthy of the time of day?

This money should go to the defense of the remaining soldiers on trial from all of dingy harry's lies about them killing civilians, etc. I think all but two have been exonerated.

That would jab a stick in Reid's other eye to know that his letter was responsible for defending the soldiers he so irresponsibly accused.

Senators trying to chastise a private citizen is a new low for this congress, and marks the beginning of the solcialist/communist jack-booted thugs ravaging citizens for daring to speak out...goodbye freedom of speech.

I wish a high roller would come in and bid a million bucks or more as a donation to these causes. Ried and the other forty would be mortified.

Rush is not profiting with a dime out of this. It all goes to helping the troops. That's more than can be said for the Democrats who have trashed them all year.

Impossible, as they have no shame.

As much as I dislike Feinstein, she does seem to avoid making an ass out of herself nearly as much as Boxer. She’s a dyed in the wool liberal moonbat, but she doesn’t waste her efforts on things that don’t matter. I wouldn’t be surprised if she steered clear of this nonsense.

I agree that they wouldn’t feel shame. They’re incapable. But it would grate them something fierce that they had handed Limbaugh $1 million dollars to help the families of people they loathe. It would be grand to see this happen.

Someone might do just that. But don’t expect it until the auction is almost over. That’s when you’ll see many people, some who haven’t bid even once, enter the fray if this follows the pattern of other auctions.

Consider this $41,000 a nice deposit on thr final numbers.
