Congress must approve U.S. attack vs Iran: Pelosi

President George W. Bush must seek congressional approval before taking any military action in Iran, unless Tehran attacks the United States first, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said on Sunday.
"We don't believe that any authorities that the president has would give him the ability to go in without an act of Congress," Pelosi told ABC's "This Week" program.
"Any president, if we are attacked, if our country is attacked has -- even under the War Powers Act -- very strong powers to go after that country. But short of that, he must come to the Congress," said the top Democrat in the House of Representatives.
Pelosi said Bush had not requested any congressional authority to take military action in Iran, despite growing U.S. concern over Iran's nuclear ambitions and its support for militant groups in Lebanon and Gaza.
Republican presidential candidates last week said it may be necessary to attack Iran's nuclear facilities to prevent it from developing a bomb, but they were cautious about a preemptive strike, saying Congress should be consulted first.
Iran denies trying to build a nuclear weapon, but the United States, France, Britain and other countries fear Iran's stated pursuit of nuclear-generated electricity is a precursor to learning how to build atom bombs.
Bush this month said the United States was working to resolve the nuclear standoff with Iran diplomatically but was keeping all its options open.
U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice last week said Washington was considering sanctions against the Qods force, the elite unit of Iran's Revolutionary Guard, which it accuses of inciting violence against U.S. troops in Iraq.

The War Powers Act of 1973 requires the President to consult with Congress before and during hostilities (Sec. 3); and to remove U.S. armed forces from hostilities if Congress has not declared war or passed a resolution authorizing the use of force within 60 days (Sec.. 5(b)). It grants an additional 30 days upon a formal request by the President, presumably when “unavoidable military necessity” requires additional action for a safe withdrawal.
“Commander in Chief”.
Nowhere does that title, include whining democrats in the house of representatives.
But apparantly it is okay for Pelosi in Chief to declare war on Turkey...
Well I guess then that BJ broke the law and needs to be tried and sent to jail for when he took out the aspirin factory.(That was BJ wasn’t it?) Nancy the clown is full of s***, the Pres can attack whomever he wants without a vote.
Of course she’s full of it. But she’s also told our enemies that they can attack our allies with impunity -and they don’t think we would respond.
Basicly, I believe she just cost innocent lives.
Believe? LOL! Believe what you want Pelosi, it still doesn't become real. The President has the power to use military force without congressional approval for 30 days.

I fit ever comes to that, Congress will do as they’ve done before: refuse to vote on it, handing the decision back to the President and holding fingers to the wind later to either criticise him or to claim praise.
The best defense is a strong offense!

60 days is plenty long enough to do all the surgery Iran requires......without even “invading” it....

The democrats are messing with Turkey to try and make the situation in Iraq even worse.
