Wow. What a great map.
Lewes Delaware is world famous for its magnificent ferry.
Okay so you never heard of it. Get out for God’s sake.
This ferry transports folks from Delaware, right near me in fact, to New Jersey. It is a most fun trip. Last month I took my granddaughter on a ferry ride. We did not go to the Atlantic city casinos, ahem, but we did go to a lovely zoo in Cape May New Jersey. Well I write all about it, with pics and video....below...

As for Sussex county, well I do love it here. I love Lewes Delaware, home of one of those big businesses I consult for AND my own fine church.
Note that I live in a town with a name used by towns and cities across the fruited plains. Is there a Georgetown in England?
Kewl! They must be cousins! Thanks, snugs.
No we do not have a Georgetown
By the way Lewes in Sussex also has a Dutch Huguenots connection.
Happy Birthday to you...I’m a Libra, too (we’re the “charming” sign).
My own family comes from stock from Scotland. My first forebear on this continent came here from Scotland in the late 1600s in chains, as a slave, following one of the failed Jacobite rebellions. He came from Fifeshire and his son named his home in Georgetown (a tiny little town they founded) Rock of Dumbarton. That "tiny" cottage was used for a minor establishing discussions for a little institution called the United Nations.
I'm terribly sorry about that.
My family did go on to scout and map much of the rest of the Eastern US, including a little area named "Beall's Folly" which was sold to a low rent traveler named Daniel Boone, which later became known as Boonetown, but that's another story...
I grew up in the town of Scarsdale (village and town (township), Westchester county, southeastern New York, U.S. It is a northern residential suburb of New York City. The site was settled in 1701, following its purchase by Caleb Heathcote, who received a royal edict from William III for the Manor of Scarsdale, so named for Heathcote's home district in Derbyshire, England. During the American Revolution, British ) and have through my lifetime been more and more aware of the connections to "the mother country." I desperately want to go back an visit the areas where my family came from. Of course, that might leave some "bitter feelins..."
Seriously, the research I've done to date indicates that my ancestors were part of "the border" culture called The Reivers. This was basically a bunch of folks, north and south of the border, whose livelyhood was built on raiding in the opposite direction, stealing horses, cattle and women (hopefully keeping them straight)... in essence I'm the descendent of a bunch of horse thieves.
And damned proud of it! ;^>
I have always wondered if the Georgetown’s were named after King George.
We also have Kingston in Surrey which is Kingstown which was named after Henry VIII
I don't believe there is a diet that is "right" for everyone; you just have to find the one that works for you. After being on Mr. Atkin's diet for many years, my body chemistry appears to have changed. Everytime I go on a carbo binge now, my body is quick to react. I get lethargic and feel weak. I have to admit it is quite challenging to stay on the diet in the Middle East; there many high-carb delights available. The good news: Breyers low-carb ice cream is available in KSA now which satisfies my sweet tooth.
PoC
Thanks a bunch Snugs. I am just getting around to reading the Sunday Morning Talk Show Thread. I usually first scan quickly for your pictures of the evening meal. Your ping made it so much easier.
I came in late this afternoon from Charlotte Motor Speedway (Got Shots?). A couple of friends and I ventured over to the NASCAR site to view, with 185,000 fans, the latest installment in NASCAR’s Race To The Championship.
I am an unapologetic fan of NASCAR and would venture to say after the recent debacle of the recommendation (by a Democrat congressperson), very few NASCAR votes will go for the Democrat choice in the next Presidential Election. If you’re not familiar with this, just google NASCAR, Democrats, and Needle. The several fans I chatted with were a bit peeved.
Back to the thread. Hope all is well in your corner of the world.
Ive collected lots of tidbits about such historic new world sites. My absolute favorite is the story of Port Royal (Port Royale?) which was, at one time, the wealthiest place on earth, what with the loot from all of the treasure ships that the pirates had pillaged. Here we have the most debauched city on earth, like todays Las Vegas or histories Sodom or Gomorrah, and it was the center of the pirate trade. And what happens at the height of its power? An earthquake causes 90% of the town to sink into the ocean! I have this image of the survivors standing on the shore saying Im going to church right now... how about you?
In Scarsdale, New York, where I grew up, we had buildings still standing from before the revolution (at least one with marks from "Redcoat" bayonets). The film Last of The Mohicans was based on James Fenimore Cooper's book of the same name set in that area. In my town Fenimore was one of the main roads through town and my middle school (grades 6/7/8) had three houses, with Cooper being the one I was in.
I grew up with this stuff, as much of it celebrating our European heritage (primarily Scots/English/Irish) as the "new world" stuff. What has caught me over the last few years is filling in the gaps in my knowledge as I've learned more. Did I mention that I'm descended from a long line of horse thieves?
yeah, it’s just you.
Same here Snugs. Our kennel keeps our pet’s (2) records on file and require annual injections as well as twice-yearly kennel cough treatments.
I have seen them turn away a pet whose owner could not provide proof of shots and treatment. This is our primary reason for letting them kennel our 2 mutts. We are assured they are in a very good kennel.
Well, have you had your shots?
Not boring at all Fishtalk. A very good read. I’m very late reading the thread and enjoyed your post very much.
LOL! My daughter asked the same thing when I told her I was going.
Brit cannot be quite the scathing critic when he’s hosting as he can when he’s on the panel.
Too bad, but ....
I just took a very close look at the whipped strawberry dessert.
That looks good enough to risk a high sugar test. I would venture it tastes as good as it looks.
OK. It’s now 11:01PM Eastern and I have just completed reading the thread. I will now go back and reread some I have marked down plus the always informative and entertaining, Anita’s Media Nuggets.
I feel like the poor guy on the commercial from a few years ago. He was surfing the net and came upon the “last site” and was told he had reached the “end of the internet”.
Thanks to all contributors. When I’m not lurking on Sunday mornings it’s always a treat to come in later and read the entire thread.
The recipe.
One egg, 2oz SR Flour, 2oz soft marg, 2oz sugar, 2 tablespoon water, pinch of salt. Put all ingredients into mixing bowl and whisk with electric hand mixer for about 2 - 3 mins until light and fluffy and pale in colour.
Grease small microwave basin and pour in ingredients (I actually used the dish I mixed it in - it stuck a little but for this purpose it does not really matter). Cook in microwave for 2 - 3 mins dependent upon wattage of your oven - sponge should rise and but dry on top.
Leave to cool. Meanwhile make up pint and half of jelly (jello) mixed with tin fruit - I used fruit cocktail but any tinned fruit when do that goes with jello - my jello was strawberry. Include the fruit to measure the pint and half, this will mean that the jelly will set slightly harder than normal. Put into fridge to allow it start to set.
Cut the cooled sponge up and place into the bottom large dish as per the photo in about one inch square and 1/3 inch thick approx. I managed to do 2 layers probably cause my sponge was a little thinner than this. Liberally sprinkle sherry over the sponge but not too much otherwise is will go soggy.
When the jelly mixture is starting to set but not liquid otherwise it will soak into the sponge pour over the sponge.
Make up a pint of strawberry whipped dessert or non cooked pudding dessert similar to Angel Whip/Angel Delight an instant dessert which you add milk and whisk for a couple of minutes until thickened. I am sure you have various types and flavours similar to what I used. As I used strawberry jello I used a strawberry mix but again you can use any flavour that goes with the jello and tinned fruit you choose.
I think sprinkled grated chocolate over the top and served with fresh strawberries and vanilla pro-biotic yogurt.
Enjoy
