The whole reason we’re in this mess with unread bills that do untold damage to our civil liberties is because congressional leadership did not give adequate time for discussion, used fear tactics to achieve its goals, and created text that requires a lawyer to understand.

The reason we're in the "mess" we're in is because we failed to react to repeated attacks on our people and interests, opting instead for diplomacy or just pretending that it was a legal issue, instead of a challenge to our will to fight for ourselves.

As for the bills written so that only a lawyer could understand, I agree that most legislation today is often purposely designed to confuse so that it can hide a bunch of unnecessary pork and loopholes for special interest groups.

But "we the people" continue to elect lawyers! Go figure!

Well I'm addressing the legal mess created by what I see as unconstitutional legislation in response to the 9/11 attacks. My view is that 35 years of multiculturalism started with Ted Kennedy's Immigration Act of 1965 put us in a position to be unable to reject immigrants from potentially enemy countries. This was compounded by our unwillingness to hold Saudi Arabia accountable for visa documentation. I also agree with Ron Paul that if the pilots had had their second amendment rights, and if the bloated bureaucracy of our FAA hadn't kept the pilots disarmed, they would have been able to resist the attackers.

The larger mess of global jihad, is another issue. I tend to agree with you to a point, but I also recognize that in several important cases we have meddled where we shouldn't (such as the grand mosque incident in 1979).

I see our immigration policies, our often illogical foreign policies, and our monetary policy all being linked. This is not happening in a vacuum. Powerful people want things just as they are.
