So what do you have ready to replace all that oil our economy runs on. I don’t mean long term, though that’s iffy since we have not even approved drilling, much less started the process. What are we going to do after 6 months when the Saudi oil runs out, and from then until, by some miracle we pass quickly drilling here, we get our own supplies out of the ground, say in 5 or so years.

  1. Buy oil at market prices (while also dealing with inflation, which has been a major cause of oil's increase in relative value to the dollar).
  2. Drill for oil in our own territories.
  3. Deal with the need to pursue alternative fuel sources.
It's that simple. It won't be easy. A down side of this is that the carpet riders are going to get more income. We can and should consider nuclear power for our fuel cell alternative energy options ASAP.

Yes, and?

Most of our economic capability is based on their oil production. I’d say keeping that secure is a good thing.

If we would get our heads out of our asees and get busy using our own supplies, which the Cubans drill more of than we do, I’d see it differently, but we can’t afford to let that region go into chaos or worse fall to the Russians...

We don’t appease the Saudis, we buy oil from them. The Leadership there want’s terrorism less than we do, bad for business.

What's more is that al Qaeda hates the Saudi royal family as much as they hate us, and therefore, we have a common enemy.

But try telling that to a Paulenoid libertarian.

Isn't that unfortunate? Perhaps with all the money they've spent on manipulating our political system (well-documented) we've allowed ourselves to be put over a barrel? That's just plain wrong. We should not remain over this barrel. The Canadians have oil. Our own shores and interiors have oil. We can find alternatives while we tap our own.

Pardon the pun.

How could anyone get excited about this ridiculous pole?

I wasn't aware he was Polish.

What's moonbatty about seeking to abolish the Federal Reserve, the IRS, and limiting the power fo the federal government? Those are good, wholesome conservative positions. His perspectives on foreign policy are interrelated with those things, because our foreign policy is one reason whey we need to print money out of nothing, inflating our currency year over year.

None of that will really matter if we get hit by a nuke or two. Very likely scenario if Paul's bizarre foreign policy were in place in today's times.

Thank goodness there's about an ice-cube's chance in hell of that happening.

I agree that Reagan did not advocate the same foreign policy as Paul. At the same, unlike the current president, was more likely to recognize the limits of American power. Reagan learned from his mistakes, however. For example, instead of plunging into a quagmire in Beiruit (which would still be going on today), he got our troops the hell out. He was a very wise man in recognizing the folly of “remaking” the Middle East.

A very likely scenario with our current immigration system, and our weak border and shore defense under a stripped-down and incompetent territory defense. I see Hunter and Tancredo talking about it. The others are going to continue the same program. Why? Because it serves the globalist cause.

Are you suggesting we support Saudi Arabia with our blood and treasure? If the term Islamic fascist is accurate, Saudi Arabia is probably the leading example in the world today. In no other country, except perhaps Karzai’s Afghanistan are the rights of Christians more limited.

1.Buy oil at market prices (while also dealing with inflation, which has been a major cause of oil's increase in relative value to the dollar). Oil has to be available to buy at market prices, and right now that market and those prices are stable because the Princes are stable. 250.00 a barrel oil, or worse, withheld oil to punish the "Great Satan" is not a good thing.

2.Drill for oil in our own territories Has not even been approved yet, and is still not certain by any means, dumb as that is. Even then it will take at least 5 years to bring on line. What do we do in the mean time, we have about 6 months to a year maybe.

3. Deal with the need to pursue alternative fuel sources. OK, that will be 10 years minimum, same question as above.

We just can't turn back the clock, flipping it like a light switch.

Why not let the market decide instead of using the federal government to manage the economics of energy with a foreign policy of force, and subsidies for foreign oil interests? That would be true conservatism. What we have now is socialism for the oil industries of foreign countries.

I have a Saudi Friend who is a distant cousin to the Royals. He says the royals hate all those groups, but since the bulk of the population is susceptible to the philosophies of the radicals they have to turn a public blind eye or fear strikes and uprisings. Behind the scenes the Saudis feed us as much info as they can. Enemy of my Enemy is my friend even if it is under the cover of darkness.

Find them and I’ll support pulling out of the region, until then I will not tank the economy. That is as bad as any terrorist attack.

Also, one thing to consider. The Russians are looking more and more to get back on the world stage. Be prepared for a new cold war if they can get a foot old on a strategic resources. Something to think about.

They don’t call it the Ron Paul revolution for nothing. He means massive change to the way we do things. You’re not expected to agree with the proposed changes, but they are principled.

Ah, but if it were only that simple...

We are not talking a product, but a resource, we can’t just move the factory. This resource is in a very unstable region. There has to be product to be a market. If the Gulf were to be thrown into the chaos of a 100 petty wars, there would be no oil for any market, free or otherwise. Market forces are nullified...

They may not like them, but during the main mosque hostage crisis of 1979 they agreed to fund radical Islam around the planet in exchange for a fatwa against the zealots holding the Kaba. The CIA-directed attack on the zealots holding the mosque is actually the initial inspiration for the young bin Laden, whose family had built some of the structures around the mosque and inside it.
