Chemo For GOP: President Hillary (GOP Needs Complete Cleansing - Patient Is Sick Alert)

Well, when you've got a headache, you take an aspirin. When you've got the flu, you take something a little stronger. When you've got cancer, you need chemotherapy, which kills cancer cells but can come perilously close to killing the patient. It's a sad truth, but the Republican Party has the political equivalent of cancer. The party is immune from internal reform. Only the nastiest medicine imaginable can save it, and four (but probably eight) years of Clinton, backed by a Democratic congressional majority, is pretty tough medicine.
Columnist Joe Dumas, writing for the Chattanoogan.com, captured the party's problem succinctly: "It should come as no big revelation to anyone inside or outside of the Republican Party that the GOP has lost touch with its conservative roots. Massive deficit spending that would make Bill Clinton or Jimmy Carter blush; foreign adventurism beyond the wildest dreams of Woodrow Wilson or Teddy Roosevelt; more big-government programs than FDR or LBJ (Google 'Medicare expansion' for a massive example) ... the Republican Party of the early 21st century is clearly not your father's or grandfather's GOP."
Yet the party's leaders, and a good bit of the grass roots, are in denial. They still think the candidate who can best imitate Ronald Reagan's speech-making (Mitt Romney), or who has the best celebrity credentials (Fred Thompson), or who can best exploit national security issues and 9/11 (Rudy Giuliani) can stop the Hillary Express. But the problem goes well beyond superficial concerns. The GOP has a substance problem none of the major candidates has the right ideas.

8 years of President Hillary could cure the GOP. Its dying - the RINOs are extinct and the party's current presidential aspirants have no vision on what conservatism means for the future. Nostalgic appeals to Reaganism won't stop a Hillary win next year. Steven Greenhut makes the case its time to roll up our sleeves and get the GOP back to its small government philosophical roots.

8 years of President Hillary could kill the country. Remember what a mere four years of rule by that asshat Jimmy Carter did . . . not to mention fiddling by Bill for eight.

This is the same kind of defeatist attitude that allowed some really sorry candidates to win in 06.

What does the GOP stand for to conservatives? Forget Reagan. What does the GOP want to do in the 21st century? Personalities or celebrities won't solve the party's problem. It needs to give Americans a reason to vote FOR it. Not just vote AGAINST the Democrats. Libertarians like Greenhut are even more disenchanted and many of them abandoned the party in droves in 2006.

Bookmarking for when they all inevitably deny it,(as they do about 06), and especially when waiting in line for an EKG under Hillarycare, lol.

You got there before me.
I have to put country ahead of party. The country would not emerge intact from 8 years of a Hillary Presidency, especialy with Democrat majorities in both houses of Congress.
The kind of talk exemplified by this article is just stupid.

The Republican candidates are not talking about the real issues facing this country, especially the so-called "front-runners." The value of our dollar is declining, the borders are wide open, and the entitlement programs are headed towards insolvency.

Oh great. Another one of those 'We need a Dem President to teach the Republicans a lesson' rants.

Reading Greenhut's quote of what Guiliani thinks of freedom makes him objectionable to libertarians. On the other hand, social conservatives abhor his stand on abortion. The party needs to find a way to appeal to both or it will find itself in the political wilderness. Believe me, I abhor a Hillary presidency as much as any one else. But it does no good denying the fact Americans have turned their backs on the Republican Party and to win them back we have to figure out why. Moving Left is not the answer. We need to find the small government vision or we will surely perish for want of one.

Libertarians like Greenhut are even more disenchanted and many of them abandoned the party in droves in 2006.Then they are idiots. You put up the best fight you can during the primaries. In the general, there's only one way to go.

Yep. It seems we have two socialist parties in this country and one wants to take us there more slowly than the other one. Its the same destination. No wonder people are voting for the Democrats. No one will get the GOP house's in order but conservatives. The problem isn't one of candidates; its one of substance. A winning political party has ideas people find attractive. That drew Americans to Ronald Reagan in the 1980s. Right now, there's a dearth of genuine conservative leadership and that is why the Hillary Express looks inevitable.

Not to mention the slap in the face her election will be to our troops, and the danger to their honor she would be.
Hillary and Bill Clinton can go to hell, they are commie vampires that suck the lifeblood out of this country, and deserve a stake thru the heart until dead.

You list reasons to vote against the Democrats. Fine - we all know here what they are. Explain to someone who is NOT a Freeper why they should vote for our party.

8 years of President Hillary could cure the GOP No it wouldn't. The GOP would be dead, strangled (as well as the country). Illegal immigrants and felons given the vote, millions made dependent on government (i.e., Democrat) largesse for their health, businesses taxed out of existence, independent opinion makers smeared or silenced, or investigated, or thrown in prison. There would be a one party state, under socialism.
