Jim Peterson Unveiling the Secretive OVW at the DOJ: Feminist Run "Office on Violence Against Women"
October 12, 2007 at 1:16 pm · Filed under Vox Populi
I just spoke with Jordan Talge of Minnesota Senator Norm Coleman's office (202-224-5641 and Jordan_Talge@coleman.senate.gov) as part of the admittedly quixotic emergency drive to stop the vote on the CJS Act Monday morning that will give $430 Million to radical feminist groups (who don't vote Republican).
This young man helpfully provided me with the information that Republican Senators apparently view something called the OVW at the DOJ as untouchable and never question its usefulness or whether any man would ever complain about it (it is the OVW that funds Tahirih and got IMBRA conceived and passed).
He told me that NOBODY had ever phoned or written the senator about this. This is a shock because the very existence of the OVW is unconstitutional (the federal government has no business dealing with a states rights issue).I almost felt sorry for the guy being so blissfully unaware that there was such a thing as a radical feminist.
But I guess I had been blissfully unaware of an entire government department dedicated to hating men:
OFFICE ON VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN
Appropriations, 2007 .. $382,571,000
Budget estimate, 2008 370,005,000
Committee recommendation .. 390,000,000
The Committee recommendation provides $390,000,000. The recommendation is $19,995,000 above the budget request.
The Committee rejects the administrations proposal to create a consolidated, competitive grant program for the programs authorized in the Violence Against Women Act [VAWA], because, if approved, these proven and successful programs would cease to operate in the way that Congress intended. For over 10 years, VAWA programs have supported community efforts around the Nation to effectively respond to domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and dating violence. In the 109th session, Congress unanimously passed a VAWA reauthorization that continues successful programs and creates targeted new programs to address gaps in prevention services, housing, healthcare, criminal justice, and employment issues, and meet the needs of youth, native women, communities of color, and victims of sexual violence. These programs are designed to meet specific needs and create collaborations between distinct groups that can leverage their expertise and resources to address different aspects of domestic and sexual violence. The proposed competitive grant ignores the congressional intent behind these programs and would lead to less effective and potentially dangerous programming and disadvantage certain applicants, such as those from rural areas. Congress is firmly committed to ensuring that grantees have the necessary knowledge and history of providing effective services to victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking in order to ensure that VAWA funding is used wisely and well. Because of this, VAWA programs have many specific requirements and protections to ensure that work with law enforcement, child protective services, healthcare, and other systems is being done effectively and the confidentiality and safety of victims is maintained. The Committee believes that it is important to fund individual VAWA programs as authorized in order to meet distinct needs in the field and strengthen the continuum of intervention and prevention responses to victims, families, and communities. The Office on Violence Against Women [OVW] is a component of the U.S. Department of Justice. Created in 1995, OVW implementsthe Violence Against Women Act [VAWA] and subsequent legislation, and provides national leadership against domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking. Since its inception, the office has launched a multifaceted approach to responding to these crimes. By forging State, local, and tribal partnerships among police, prosecutors, the judiciary, victim advocates, health care providers, faith leaders, and others. OVW grants help provide victims with the protection and services they need to pursue safe and healthy lives and enable communities to hold offenders accountable. In 2005, OVW s established as an administrative office separate from the Officeof Justice Programs.
The table below displays the Committee recommendations for the programs under this office.

What is there to say? I’m speechless. We are all doomed.
I have mixed feelings about this. I am virulently anti-feminist, but I’m not anti-woman. I have no doubt that oversight is necessary to make sure the grants are not being misused, but the fact remains that too many women are abused and do need assistance.
They have money for tracking violence against Indian women but not Muslim women?
What the heck?
If these programs are successful they should be able to withstand a little competition.
I dont see a single program on there for assistance in getting victims of violence concealed carry permits.
in earlier years i would step in and physically defend a woman being threatened. now, i just stand aside and wonder what she did to set him off. it’s sad, i know.
Where is that in the Constitution?
The one sided Women are never the abusers of Domestic Abuse canard is funded by the FemNags and Gender Hating Feminists. This is discrimination per Se. The so called Tarih Justice Center is an Iranian organization that supports Al-Queda. How messed up is this? Our Tax dollars are being used to wage a war of attrition against Men. And to encourage the break up of more Families and Marriage. It was revealed today that the funding if IMBRA will create 10,000 jobs for Feminists. With your and my tax dollars.
The Country has over 750 Women’s Studies programs. And not enough Jobs to provide for those Graduates. So they created a phony problem. Mail Order Bride abuse. And then Created IMBRA to criminalize all American Males. And now they will create a Feminist Run bureaucracy to fund compliance.
Liberal Agenda. Create a Crisis to fund a problem in search of funding. Create the Solution before the problem. Then seek more funding to create the means to solve the problem that never existed in the first place. This is a sinister agenda afoot here. If you are a Conservative and support the Rights of the Individuals and Freedom. How can you support this insanity??? Please explain that to me.
It might not be unconstitutional to publicly fund some citizens while excluding others on the basis of gender (or maybe it is), but it seems like poor policy in principle from the standpoint of fairness and 'equal standing under law'.
This kind of thing seems like a massively popular campaign issue waiting to happen, against the Demrats, who can't defy their Mistress.
How can you support this insanity???
i don’t, i want to escape the constant lunacy.
ah yes Dr, Watson. the well known Mary Jo Kopechne syndrome.
I don’t get it. Was your post#11 intended as a response to my #9?
The SOLE PURPOSE of VAWA is to give jobs to “women’s studies” majors.
