Mrs. Fields bans Christmas from their products (AFA email)

Mrs. Fields has become the first company to ban Christmas from their products and promotion for this year.

When Diane H. of Michigan called Mrs. Fields and asked to speak with a supervisor in customer service about why they banned Christmas, the supervisor told Diane that they do not offer anything with Merry Christmas because they don't want to offend anyone.

Take a look at Mrs. Fields Holiday Gift Preview by clicking here. In the "search" bar, type in the word "Christmas." But don't expect to find any reference to Christmas. (If you do, it has been added since this letter was written.)

Mrs. Fields wants the business of Christians who celebrate Christmas, but they don’t mind if they offend Christians.

“Something like 78% of Americans have claimed to be Christian.”

Where did you get that figure?

The cookies are delicious but I rarely eat them since they are so full of fat. Though I suppose once a Democrat is president that sort of thing will be outlawed. Then Mrs Fields will be the one who’s offended!

I am offended by what they’ve done here, so their effort to not offend anyone has failed already. I guess they think it is better to annoy the vast majority of Americans who celebrate Christmas just to keep everyone else happy. What lunacy.

She could have Christmas...Hannukah...and Happy Holiday items!! Why take out Christmas????? STUPID.

I don't think "stupid" is the word we're looking for here. From a business point of view, "Happy Holidays" is a cost-effective means of getting the message out to, and appealing to, a wider audience.

But if that many of you are thoroughly disgusted by Mrs. Fields and her policies, there is always the option of getting together with your fellow offended Christians to start a cookie business that caters strictly to Christians. I'm sure some of you here have some kick-ass cookie recipes that can be mass-produced, and with all the outrage floating around on the subject there should be no problem soliciting capital.

This all just seems so silly.

I couldn't agree more. It's a pretty weak form of faith that needs reassurance from a cookie or a cashier.

If I'm of French ancestry, and I get offended because someone fails to wish me a happy Bastille Day every day of June and July, is that reasonable? Of course not. I don't think it's any more reasonable to vow a boycott because a cookie company doesn't have "Merry Christmas" on its site in October. I thought it was supposed to be liberals who are hypersensitive to the tiniest perceived slight.

You’ve got a lot of nerve bringing up facts while we’re trying to be hysterical.

I did a scan for ramadan, yom kippur, hannukah, kwanza and festiva and none of those produced any results either. It looks like it's not so much a slap against Christmas as a decision to just do away with specific holiday references.

That probably makes their year-end ad campaigns easier, too, since they don't have to custom-tailor the campaigns to any particular group, but let the individual interpret which holiday it is, according to their tastes.

My bad. I’m off to see if Target or Walmart is allowing the word “Christmas” on their websites.

“Eschew obfuscation.”

Eschew is a reference to self. It is the left that MUST obfuscate their agenda, because to do otherwise would cause their agenda to be quickly defeated.

Expose the Left = Defeat the Left.

I was thinking of Burger King, which tries to tie-in to a lot of movies. The notorious flop that comes to mind is Godzilla (1998). They also had to stop their promotion of Small Soldiers, because the movie contained some inappropriate stuff for kids.

My letter:

Dear President Russo,

Because, this time of year is filled with more than its share of genuine, joyous, heartwarming holidays with meaningful names that my friends and family love and recognize (e.g. Thanksgiving and Christmas), we regret that we will not be able share those holidays with Mrs. Fields products.

We see that Mrs. Fields is doing some celebrating of her own. However, we’re afraid there’s not a day of the year where we merely celebrate “Seasons,” unless it’s with umbrellas or swimsuits. Nor is there a day where we try to celebrate the “Holidays” all at once. We prefer to savor each of our holidays individually, the way we used to savor each flavor of Mrs. Fields Cookies.

We sincerely regret that Mrs. Fields decided not to celebrate Christmas this year with us. One of your customer service supervisors said you did so because you didn’t want to offend anyone. How sad and ironic.

We hope that next year you will consider celebrating Christmas and Thanksgiving with us. If you do, then there’s hope we’ll see each other again.

Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas, and Goodbye.

WOW!!! You sound really anti-Christian!! What’s up with that? Actually you must be an ATHEIST.

Informing you about marketing strategies and suggesting that you can exercise your freedom as an American by starting your own business are symptoms of being an anti-Christian and an atheist?

Help me make a connection here; I don't understand.

"How about just ONE Christmas where everybody rejects commercialization?"

I used to think that. But I decided if capitalists don't mind celebrating Christmas, then I don't mind celebrating free-market capitalism, because God knows that socialism and communism would never return the favor!

Mmmm...
I suddenly have an appetite for Mrs. Fields cookies.
Where do I get one?

http://www.mrsfields.com/stores/?page=1&count=6&type=MFC&city=&zip=95111&distance=10

Wait a minute. What if businesses discover that the best way to get attention is to ban Christmas and then quickly restore it to win gratitude?
