Lets be honest, does Hillary Clinton really want to run against Law and Orders District Attorney Arthur Branch? The once actor, once senator, once lawyer and once blue collar worker Fred Thompson has now turned into a presidential candidate. Thompson could now be the Republicans savior in the 2008 election. After announcing his candidacy for president a little more than a month ago, Thompson has gained popularity quickly. Many may think this is because of his celebrity status or his trophy wife; however, I have a different theory. If Thompson wins the primary and becomes the Republican representative for the 2008 election, he will win based on his strong beliefs on issues that matter to America. All you have to do is look at Thompsons voting background from when he was senator to see that his morals and values are similar with those of the people of America. You can look at websites such as OnTheIssues.org to find information about most candidates in America. This is one of many places to find the resources you need to decide why you support a specific candidate.
Thompson supports President Bushs tax cuts, abortion bans, the invasion of Iraq, the protection of gun rights and he opposes any type of amnesty for illegal aliens. Thompson does not flip-flop like many of the other presidential candidates, Democrat or Republican. America needs someone who will be true to his word and who is going to fight for our freedom no matter what it takes. Only time will tell if Thompson can help Republicans get back to the Reagan days where the Grand Old Party was the way to go. Thompson participated in his first GOP debate on Tuesday, and, according to Fox News, held his own after taking attacks from his opponents early on. As I watched the debate on MSNBC, I heard candidate after candidate remind me how ridiculous most of Hillary Clintons propositions are. I started to think about my future, what it would be like if Hillary Clinton were elected President of the United States. I started to feel a little sick and thought about which country would be best to move to if she were elected. The best answer I could come up with was any country where she was not in charge. If elected, Clinton would ruin everything the Bush administration has built up during the past two terms. The economy would be absolutely destroyed, taxes would skyrocket, homeland security would basically be abolished and people would be burning American flags in the streets of our communities.
Thompson will not let eight years be thrown down the drain, and will fight to make this country a better place rather than deceiving the public and making phony promises.
There are many Republican candidates I would vote for and Thompson is at the top of my list. He is a real American and a real conservative Republican who has shown honesty and integrity throughout his political career. I look forward to watching Thompson in future debates as he was a little raw in this first one. On the other hand, maybe he was just real and not as scripted as all the other candidates. You be the judge.
fred; you dog, you
No contest.
May 23, 2007 Lorrie Morgan says her former boyfriend, Fred Thompson, would make a great president. Lorrie, who dated Fred for a couple of years in the mid-'90s, told Ralph Emery on his RFD-TV show "Live" that she definitely thinks Fred is presidential material. The article’s writer is incorrect about Thompson’s position on “Amnesty for illegals”. Thompson’s position - as has been reported here at FR several times in past weeks - is that there must be a “path to citizenship” for “some” of the illegals. Sounds like amnesty and not deportation.
That makes Thompson as close to Bush as he needs to be such that the term “BushBot” is applicable.
Which means Thompson is no better than any of the “top tier” candidates.
All of this perspective makes Hunter and Tancredo the ONLY conservatives in the whole mixup.
It's all about getting votes AND being conservative. Neither one of these can do that.
Unfortunately we are in a "celebrity struck" culture.
That's the only explanation as to why Hitlery could even be considered the front runner for the dems. If we looked at real qualifications, and sound character, she wouldn't stand a chance.
I would like to see a primary vote breakdown.
We have many Guiliani trolls around here who are basing all their “no choice” arguments on the assumption voting is irrelevant.
Guiliani worked very hard to push primaries as early as possible and we should see exactly where the votes are right now.
Part of Freds campaign problems have been living up to expectations, and frankly, stories that start out with questions like this, only feed those expectations.
Arthur Branch is a fictional character, and Fred is a real politician with flaws just like them all. In all honesty, Hillary may not want to run against Arthur Branch, but I think she would love to run against Fred Thompson.
My only point is, that getting his name out there with the general public, by tying him to past roles is one thing. A campaign must capitalize on that name recognition. But to compare a tough, fictional character to a real man will raise expectations, that so far he has been unable to attain. He seems to be doing a little better (his debate the other night ended with a good showing), but why put him on a pedestal he may not be able to reach?
Thompson clearly wants physically secured borders, tougher negotiations with Mexico, use of strict employer enforcement to induce self-deportation, and continue to use a system of legal immigration and visa options, such as H-1B.
This isn't the Bush plan. So far your claims are looking mighty weak.
BS.
LLS
Romney also claims he changed his mind on many issues “earlier this year.”
I can see Fred doing well with men but he needs to appeal to women which will not be easy in the face of Hillary's giveaways and same-gender appear.
Hillary hasn't got the breadth of experience Thompson has. She, like Thompson, was a Watergate lawyer. Her steps into policy where badly fumbled. She only became a senator on the back of her own husband's cult of personality and had to go to New York to do it. Obama is a serious lightweight with fringe ideas and a candidacy built on personality. Edwards is a joke. It's a sad commentary! I hope Al Gore gets in so there's a Democrat with some experience on their ticket just in case.
Thompson seems like he'd make a fine president. He's intelligent, articulate and is right-on with a wide spectrum of issues. Rudy is a persona, Mitt is weasel, McCain is burnt out and the others.
Where did Fred say he changed his mind on immigration? The innuendo around here is tiresome.
In every poll I have seen, Fred is doing great with white men over the age of 45. That is his strength, but he lags with every other demographic. I don't know how he changes that, but to compare him to a fictional character that he does not live up to, does not help. I do think he can do it, but he better start soon. People will only wait so long, and if he doesn't look like he can beat Hillary before the primaries, people will not vote for him.

GO FRED!
Horsepuckey, and I'm calling you on it.
Buffalokiller’s claims aren’t “weak”, they are made up.
And frankly, after Hunter’s performance in the debate, he’s no conservative.
He fits right into Tom Sowell’s definition of a “Liberal”: somone who thinks that “All the problems of the world are mostly and mainly the result of the shortcomings of others.” In Hunter’s case it is the others who think they ought to have the right to dispose of their assets as they see fit that he sees as the problem.
No thanks, Mr. Hunter, if I want a lying, theiving, socialist as President (which I don’t) I’ll vote for one who is better at it than you are: Hillary the Beast.
