Jimmy Carter: One Helicopter Away From Greatness

Jimmy Carter, America’s most powerless, indecisive President, who allowed a mob of uneducated Iranian students to hold Americans hostage for more than a year, says he wouldn’t have done anything differently.

Speaking with XM Radio’s Bob Edwards on Tuesday, former President Jimmy Carter (you know, the guy who gave the “malaise” speech) told the radio host that he “would not want to have changed anything” during his presidency. Well, okay, maybe one thing.

Referring to the Iran hostage crisis, Carter said, “I have a specific regret in not having one more helicopter when I wanted to rescue our hostages. If I had had one more helicopter, they would have been rescued. I might have been reelected president.”

Carter may be right. One more helicopter might indeed have made the difference in the outcome of the raid. The bigger question is “ what next”. A navy uncle of mine was tasked with making arrangements with Egypt as to some unexplained aspects of this raid. He referred to this as his piece of the “war zone”. I gather from the little he said that they expected the raid would trigger a war with Iran.

As late as this all was in his term this might have changed the tone of the election from helpless and impotent Jimmy trapped in the Rose Garden to War President CINC Carter who needs your support to finish the job. The tendency is to rally around the president in time of war and his other failings aside it might have been enough.

Take it from someone who was there. That mission was not a walk in the park and was one of the most risky plans I have ever seen. I was in the air when the mission was aborted. My first thought was that I was going to live to see tomorrow. We all knew that most of us were not coming back. We were the best trained troops in the world and that mission scared the hell out of all of us.

That’s about right...21.5% Prime Rate (1980), 13.5% rate of inflation (1981) and about 10.7 unemployment(1982), for total of 45.7 Peak Misery Index..Paul Volker was the Fed Chairman too...Carter appointed him in 1979 and then he finished his term in 1987 during Reagan’s Presidency . I just hope they bury him somewhere that I might go to (not Plains, GA because I will NEVER go there, and MOST DEFINITELY NOT Arlington National Cemetery...if they put him there, I might request to have my dad reburied somewhere else.)

I just want a chance to spit on his grave. That scumbag.

I regret that the American people elected a man without a brain in his head. Maybe if he Carter had a brain or even a reasonable facsimile thereof, he wouldn’t have facilitiated the return of Khomeini to Iran and greased the Shah’s slide out of there in the first place.

We’re still paying the price for Carter’s massively stupid “Islamic Card” he thought was so artful to play against the Soviet Union on its southern border.

Thanks ever so much Carter, for Al Qaeda and all the rest you unleashed on the world, you lamebrain.

Looks like history is about to repeat itself.....

How about “I regret losing all those soldiers in the desert” or “I regret not having the common sense to rein in inflation” or “I regret being such a stubborn prince that no one in Washington would work with me”

For starters.

OK, so I’m trying to get my brain around this. Carter is one of those Dims who thinks we should use diplomacy and negotiation with our enemies, rather than military force. But his only regret about his four WH years is that he didn’t use more military power in the form of another helicopter to rescue the hostages.

But Reagan NEGOTIATED to gain the hostages’ release, even though he didn’t have ANY helicopters at the time.

No wonder that rabbit was such a big threat to Carter.

I served in the Military under carter....I was once asked about the rescue operation, “How can a military that spends billions of dollars a year be short 8 helicopters?”...well, when you cannot buy fuel, parts, or bullets because your budget has been cut to feed social programs, when the welfare recipients get more money a month than a military family, forcing them onto food stamps, well you get the idea...jimmah damn near ruined the military in this country, personally caused the “malaise” that he spoke of by putting more people on the public dole than anyone before him, was responsible for double digit inflation, and so on and so on.....anything this clown says should be flushed along with hisself.....

Highly, with almost metaphysical certitude, unlikely. What you and Harold Brown should have done was not micromanage Operation Eagle Claw, not given everyone a piece of the pie and gotten the hell out of the way. Everything that vile human being touches turns out to be all f***ed up.

Jimmy Carter is the useful idiot attack dog so Hillary does not have to get her hands dirty.

Carter is a lunatic.

don’t forget carter approached the USSR to cut a deal for their assistance to elect mondale. Carter is not beneath playing electoral manipulations. (what is the satute of limitations on treason by an expresident.)

The proper response would be for “A” MSM to call him on his left wing nuttery, however the MSM is just a cheeleader and does zero investigation.

This stupid SOB is delusional. If you read Charging Charlie’s book (Delta Force: The Army's Elite Counterterrorist Unit by Charlie A. Beckwith and Donald Knox) about the Desert 1 he makes it clear that they went with half the men and equipment requested - specifically because Jimmy did not want a big incident.

The blood of the heroes who died at Desert 1 is on Jimmy’s hands and his soul. I still have him in the dead pool for October, wishful thinking I guess.

1. second the motion for a vote to revoke Jimmah Carter’s citizenship, and amend to have him shipped to North Korea, to stay with his butt buddy Kim Jong Il.
2. Motion made to rename the submarine currently named USS Jimmy Carter.

And I voted for that pile of excrement in 1976.
