Ann Coulter on CNBC Show: Jews Need 'Perfecting'

NEW YORK Appearing on Donny Deutsch's CNBC show, "The Big Idea," on Monday night, columnist/author Ann Coulter suggested that the U.S. would be a better place if there weren't any Jewish people and that they needed to "perfect" themselves into -- Christians.

It led Deutsch to suggest that surely she couldn't mean that, and when she insisted she did, he said this sounded "anti-Semitic."

Asked by Deutsch whether she wanted to be like "the head of Iran" and "wipe Israel off the Earth," Coulter stated: "No, we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say. ... That's what Christianity is. We believe the Old Testament."

Deutsch told E&P's sibling magazine, Adweek, today, "I was offended. And then, and this was interesting, she started to back off and seemed a little upset."

Asked to gauge her reaction, Deutsch said, "I think she got frightened that maybe she had crossed a line, that this was maybe a faux pas of great proportions. I mean, did it show ignorance? Anti-Semitism? It wasn't just one of those silly things."

A transcript, provided by Media Matters, follows. *

DEUTSCH: Christian -- so we should be Christian? It would be better if we were all Christian?

COULTER: Yes.

DEUTSCH: We should all be Christian?

COULTER: Yes. Would you like to come to church with me, Donny?

DEUTSCH: So I should not be a Jew, I should be a Christian, and this would be a better place?

COULTER: Well, you could be a practicing Jew, but you're not.

DEUTSCH: I actually am. That's not true. I really am. But -- so we would be better if we were - if people -- if there were no Jews, no Buddhists --

COULTER: Whenever I'm harangued by --

I hope you know it reads like your writing a parody for Onion but I appreciate your correspondence. Let's take them one by one.
She openly attacked religious pluralism...
If believing that your own religion is the right religion and that who so ever believeth in your God shall not parish but shall have ever lasting life is attacking religious pluralism, which by the way, is really a euphemism that usually means Christians should shut up, than I attack religious pluralism every day.
she also implied that non-Christians have religious traditions unworthy of inclusion in the American society while on stage.
What do you mean by implied. You reading her thoughts now? This, my friend, is called projection. It's were you project onto someone else what you see in yourself. So maybe it's you who believe "that non-(whatever your religion is) have religious traditions unworthy of inclusion in the American society while on stage."
She fundamentally attacked the basic tenants of a single religion, Judaism, but it has wider implications. She then questioned a man’s religious conviction on national TV, as a guest of his show, in his house,...
GASP...How dare she! and "in his house," no less! This calls for a Congressional inquiry. Possibly legislation restriction religious bigots like Ann Coulter from "questioned a man’s religious conviction on national TV, as a guest of his show," and  "in-his-house,..." Didn't Deusch say he was a practicing Jew? Except, I see, on Sabbath. Being he does his show's on the Sabbath. But that part of his "religious conviction" is beyond reproach. One thing you should know. Obervation of the Sabbath is the most important, fundamental tenant of Judaism. Right? So that would make Ann...drum roll please...right.
she then used a sterotype from a Jewish sitcom to back up her case, showing her absolute ignorance of first person experience on the subject....
Now that's where I really thought of the Onion parody but I'll try and take it serious. You know, just for fun. Again, I think there's some projection going on here. Of the hundreds, maybe even thousands of Seinfeld episodes I've watched over the years, not once, once have I ever thought of it as a Jewish sitcom. Never ever. So to call it a sterotype shows someones own sensitivity on the subject. Not Ann's bigotry.

I see in the full transcript she Romneyed after the break. Or maybe it was just a Kerry-style botched joke.

So you’d rather Ann say nothing about people who are basically hellbound without Christ? We are called by Jesus to spread His word. It takes courage.

In the event that you, as a Jew are still awaiting the Messiah, I will be praying for the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob to open your eyes so they may see, your ears so they may hear, and your heart and mind so they may comprehend the absolute Truth that Jesus Christ IS that Messiah and Deliverer.

If perchance you already know Him as your Saviour, I will look forward to one Day shaking your hand in Our Father’s House.

I don’t know about you but it seems this Media Matters. is now trying to control all information in the USA. Who the HELL are they and who gave THEM the authority to shut anyone up. It’s also pretty obvious to me that in one week we have Ann , Rush , Mike Savage and Imus again all under attack . Anyone see a pattern there?
The BIGGER question is are we going all just sit here while the unelected left (Media Matters. ACLU) continues with their Nazi like attack on free speech ?

It started out innocently enough. I began to think at parties now and then — just to loosen up.

Inevitably, though, one thought led to another, and soon I was more than just a social thinker.

I began to think alone — “to relax,” I told myself — but I knew it wasn’t true. Thinking became more and more important to me, and finally I was thinking all the time.

That was when things began to sour at home. One evening I turned off the TV and asked my wife about the meaning of life. She spent that night at her mother’s.

I began to think on the job. I knew that thinking and employment don’t mix, but I couldn’t help myself.

I began to avoid friends at lunchtime so I could read Thoreau, Muir, Confucius and Kafka. I would return to the office dizzied and confused, asking, “What is it exactly we are doing here?”

One day the boss called me in. He said, “Listen, I like you, and it hurts me to say this, but your thinking has become a real problem. If you don’t stop thinking on the job, you’ll have to find another job.”

This gave me a lot to think about. I came home early after my conversation with the boss. “Honey,” I confessed, “I’ve been thinking...”

“I know you’ve been thinking,” she said, “and I want a divorce!”

“But Honey, surely it’s not that serious.” “It is serious,” she said, lower lip aquiver.

“You think as much as college professors and college professors don’t make any money, so if you keep on thinking, we won’t have any money!”

“That’s a faulty syllogism,” I said impatiently.

She exploded in tears of rage and frustration, but I was in no mood to deal with the emotional drama.

“I’m going to the library,” I snarled as I stomped out the door.

I headed for the library, in the mood for some Nietzsche. I roared into the parking lot with NPR on the radio and ran up to the big glass doors.

They didn’t open. The library was closed.

To this day, I believe that a Higher Power was looking out for me that night. Leaning on the unfeeling glass, whimpering for Zarathustra, a poster caught my eye, “Friend, is heavy thinking ruining your life?” it asked.

You probably recognize that line. It comes from the standard Thinkers Anonymous poster.

This is why I am what I am today: a recovering thinker.

I never miss a TA meeting. At each meeting we watch a non-educational video; last week it was “Porky’s.” Then we share experiences about how we avoided thinking since the last meeting.

I still have my job, and things are a lot better at home. Life just seemed easier, somehow, as soon as I stopped thinking. I think the road to recovery is nearly complete for me.

Maybe life would be easier if we were if we were all islamic jihadists.

Ann’s getting uglier by the day. :-(

How classy of you.

Ann isn’t stating Christian doctrine very well. Jews are not saved unless they believe in Jesus, like everyone else isn’t unless they believe in Jesus. The Law was never given to justify anyone. It was given to show us our sinfulness.

But I do love that lady’s style. I just think she needs a little instruction in how to contend for the faith properly. Even if Falwell said Jews are saved by following their faith, he was wrong.

Your title doesn’t make sense

Neither does his comment:
I'd always given Ms. Coulter a wide berth on her views despite some of the bizarre things she'd espouse. Not anymore.

The transcript was actually pretty accurate. Dear Mr Deutsch wasn’t about to help her explain herself of course and wasn’t terribly interested in understanding what she was trying to say.

Is it so shocking that one should hear that Christians believe everyone should believe the way they do? Isn’t that what we hear from everyone every day? “Listen to me, my way is the right way”? Now granted not everyone can be right because many views are mutually exclusive. But Ann was correct to suggest that Christians believe that the world would be better if we all believed in Jesus (the true Jesus, not the fake ‘teddy bear’ ‘new age’ one that the evangelical church preaches nowadays).

Your Jewish wife and daughter are perfectly righteous before God? How’d they accomplish that? Because that is what the world needs to know, how to become righteous in the eyes of God.

I'm pretty sure that insulting feelings toward all Jews qualifies as anti-Semitism, as the term is commonly understood.

Then I see a logical problems with this.

1) Some Jews are insulted by your merely suggesting that their ancestor or past religious leaders were complicit in the death of Jesus Christ ( witness the Passion of the Christ and the reaction to it ). Which means, the simple telling of a New Testament narrative (which most Christians support) equates to anti-semitism. But to say that it is anti-semitic is of course ridiculous.

2) Some Jews are insulted and feel it is anti-semitic to want them to convert ( e.g. Rabbi Boteach), some don't ( Dennis Prager and Daniel Lapin ). So, whose definition are we to conform to ?

Desiring a group of people different from you to be "perfected", when you define perfection to be whatever you are, can certainly be seen as insulting.

If this is so, then religious Jews have an anti-Gentilic ( if such a word exists) problem also. IMPLICIT in their beliefs is that the 10 Commandments tell us that we are not supposed to worship anyone but YHWH. THEIR GOD frowns on such practice and anyone who does so is sinning against God. Heck, their God condemns other tribes around Israel for this very practice.

This implies that those who worship Jesus ( who they believe is a mere man ) are blaspheming the true God. Oh they might not say it aloud, but it is IMPLICIT in their teaching. This also applies to Hindus, Buddhist, etc.

In other words IMPLICIT in their belief, is this --- OTHER RELIGION ARE IMPERFECT in their concept of God. Yet, we don't see it as insulting.

The fact that one does not say it allowed does not mean that the belief is not IMPLIED.

The only way these people could possibly be insulted is if they already think they *are* perfect.

Christians don’t believe they are perfect, they believe we are ‘credited’ with righteousness through faith, just the same as Jesus-believing Jews are. That faith is also not of our doing, it is the work of God, so that we cannot boast. So there is no anti-semitism involved at all. WE are no more ‘worthy’ than anyone else, in and of ourselves.

I agree with you. Ann simply gave a ton of ammo to the other side.

She deliberately says provocative things simply to garner attention for herself.

I agree with what John Paul II said, "Jews are Christians' elder brothers in faith.".

“All other people have the Covenent of Noah, which basically says “worship God in whatever manner God told your people to worship Him” (dramatic oversimplification).” Now let’s look at yours: “If this is true, then why did their God tell Jonah to go to a gentile country to call them to repentance AND worship THEIR God?” (emphasis added) Now where did you go wrong? “THEIR GOD” -— the worship of the one God — of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob being still necessary, and hence Jonah’s little trip. (Also, there were other violations of the Noahdic Law going on -— they were savages -— but we’re keeping things simple here.) Jewish theologians are (generally) of the opinion that the worship of God in the form of Christianity or Islam is perfectly acceptible manner of worship for non-Jewish people.

If this is so, then this cannot be the case of "“worship God in whatever manner God told your people to worship Him”

Do the Jews believe that YHWH told Christians to worship Jesus and that this is in harmony with the first commandment ?

If you reject the divinity of Jesus and accept the First Commandment, it clearly isn't a case of "whatever manner" God telling gentiles to worship Him.

SAme principle applies with Buddha and the pantheon of gods the Hindus worship.

If as you say ---- "Jewish theologians are (generally) of the opinion that the worship of God in the form of Christianity or Islam is perfectly acceptible manner of worship for non-Jewish people.", then this is a clear CONTRADICTION with their supposed belief in the 10 commandments. If jesus is not God, then they Christians are idolatrous. It can't be acceptable.

I'm not trying to convert you or anybody else. The Holy Spirit does that. My job is to tell you the truth. What you do with it is your business. If you are not seeking God, you will never find Him. A dead person cannot hear or see. The Holy Spirit is what breathes life into you so you can see and hear Spiritual things. I can't give you that life. There is none so blind as those that refuse to see. It's not your Jewishness that is the problem. It's your non belief. One religion is no different than another if Christ isn't at the Head of it. If you have led a sinless life, you have no worries. I need Christ for myself. The self righteous only have their own righteousness to present to God. God said our righteousness were as filthy rags( womens menstrual rags). That's pretty bad. I choose the righteousness of Jesus to represent me.

If you are Jewish, your belief system says you must sacrifice an animal to get forgiveness. How many sacrifices have you done? How many sacrifices has the Jewish nation performed since Jesus was crucified or the Temple was destroyed? Why haven't they rebuilt the Temple if you believe this practice is necessary? Even observant Jews don't adhere to all the Commandments of God. Calling yourself Jewish is more a cultural or racial idea than a religious one. Have all the Jews since the Temple was destroyed gone to Hell? It's like cafeteria Catholics or any other denomination. You can't pick and choose what you will believe and not. Even the Old Testament is enough to show you Christ. The New Testament is just the Messiah revealed.

You seem awfully comfortable going to hell. It's not about me or what I think. It's between you and God and what you thought of His Son's sacrifice for you. Democrats are so blinded by their hatred of Bush, they would destroy America to keep from giving him any credit. Don't let your opinion of me get in the way of your relationship with God. The Truth is the Truth, whether I tell you or someone else. Ann Coulter told the Truth to someone who didn't want to hear it. Now many here on FR have turned on Ann Coulter. This is why many Jews vote Democrat. They vote against themselves because they don't like Christians. A real Christian is the Jews best friend. I have been adopted in or grafted into the Vine. Israel won't find a stronger ally than Evangelical Christians. You have no need to fear a Christian holding you down forcing you to get Baptized as a Christian. The choice is presented and you make the choice. Your argument is with God because you can't give a good reason you should be saved other than you believe you are as "good" as anybody. Not murdering anybody or being in prison isn't what saves you.
