Ann Coulter Shocks Cable TV Show, Declaring 'Jews Need to Be Perfected by Becoming Christians'
FOX ^ | 10/11/07 | Unknown

Slash-and-burn columnist Ann Coulter shocked a cable TV talk-show audience Monday when she declared that Jews need to be "perfected" by becoming Christians, and that America would be better off if everyone were Christian.

Coulter made the remarkable statements during an often heated appearance to promote her new book on advertising guru Danny Deutsch's CNBC show "The Big Idea."

In response to a question from Deutsch asking Coulter if "it would be better if we were all Christian," the controversial columnist responded: "Yes."

"We should all be Christian?" Deutsch repeated.

"Yes," Coulter responded, asking Deutsch, who is Jewish, if he would like to "come to church with me."

Deutsch, pressing Coulter further, asked, "We should just throw Judaism away and we should all be Christians?" She responded: "Yeah."

Coulter deflected Deutsch's assertion that her comments were anti-Semitic, matter-of-factly telling the show's obviously upset host, "That is what Christians consider themselves: perfected Jews."

Yup, not many on the left would protest...

...at the same time, most here that are supporting her would be frothing at the mouth.

I just heard it on Prager’s show. If Christians believe that everyone needs to be Christian to go to heaven, then why would it be disturbing for her to say that she wishes everyone would convert? She thinks she is helping people by saying this. Who cares? We know what we know.

Because as you'll note from the transcript she ties it to both the Republican Party and the nation. In fact that's where she starts out, that Republicans are Christians and the America would be a better country if Jews would convert. That's not something the Republican Party needs to be tied to.

And no, I don't think Ann believes that, this is her act. She's a bombthrower, not a serious political pundit and needs to be dismissed as that. It's a shame others are going to have to rationalize for her, she appears to stand by her statements in their entirety, in fact has expanded them by accusing the host of being anti-Christian.

This controversy is a fabrication. Deutsch rejected all answers Coulter gave that were relevant to her book--until he was able to suggest something inflammatory. Then, if one were to read the transcript rather than the story headline, he misquoted her "exact words" to make her sound antisemitic. Christians have endured much worse. There's a test for Deutsch: Which do you prefer: 1) being eaten by lions, or 2) reaching perfection? We retort, you decide.

Ever heard of the Spanish Inquisition?

You're complaint is with the 15th century Catholic church. Sorry, no cigar.

But you do get extra credit for not going back a full 1000 years to the Crusades.

If you check the news coverage on google, you'll see it's largely negative, and many make the political connection to the right. The Chicago Tribunes political blog (their Washington bureau head) entry is typical, whether they find her worthy of an editorial, I don't know. And he doesn't tie her to Republicans, a good thing, rather right wing Christians.

Coulter Jewish comment another drive-by outrage

by Frank James

Big kerfuffle over political commentator Ann Coulter's remarks on Donny Deutsch's "Big Idea" CNBC show in which she said essentially Jews should become Christians so they can become "perfected."

Media Matter for America has a critique of her appearance.

A few thoughts. Coulter's view is actually not uncommon among fundamentalist Christians. Coulter did accurately capture the manner in which many Bible-believing Christians interpret the New Testament.

In John 14:6 (KJV), for instance, Jesus tells his disciple Thomas "…I am the way, the truth and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me."

Another New Testament passage Hebrews 10:14 encapsulates Coulter's view.

"For by one offering, he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified," meaning those who accept Jesus as their "personal Lord and savior."

So while Coulter will get a lot of criticism as an anti-Semite, she will also get a lot of spiritual high fives from members of the Religious Right who believe with all their hearts that Jews must by definition become Christians to be "perfected."

This is not to defend Coulter. It's just to explain that her view is widely shared by millions of Americans, though they're a lot less outspoken than she is.

Meanwhile, Coulter accomplished her mission. Ever the publicity seeking bomb thrower, she is getting attention today for last night's appearance on the cable show which would've likely been ignored if it hadn't been for her comments about Jews.

Ironically, one of Deutsch's points was that Coulter earns a great living by being incendiary, that that's her what her very successful "brand" represents. She, after all, is the queen of the drive-by outrage. Then she favored him with a perfect example.

Even writing this, it's hard not to feel like I'm playing into Coulter's hands, that I'm in some way being an accomplice.

It's the same feeling I get about the media when a school shooting occurs and we have 24/7 coverage, which then contributes to some unstable teenager somewhere an idea that he too could become a major news story. And so it goes.

Wrong! Please do not paint with a broad brush. However, I am offended that a woman who rarely goes to church, thinks she knows it all about MY RELIGION. That is offensive.

Let’s face it. The only acceptable predjudices left in society seem to be against Christians and conservatives.

Yep. . .and white men.

She doesn't say all Republicans are Christian. She says, describing the convention, "we're Christian, we're happy" and talks about different races being together. Whatever you think of Ann, you can't think that she is stupid. She certainly knows there are Jews in the GOP. She has met many of us.

I didn't like it when she made that "faggot" crack about Edwards. Not because I thought she was a homophobe, but because I don't like that word and don't think it's funny, even when it's used to recall a previous incident (with an actor.) Ann isn't tackful, but she's also not an elected representative.

Ann Coulter needs to be “perfected” by knowing when to speak. I used to be her Jewish fan, but no more.

Unforunately, Ann’s dopey statement made it harder for any Jew to join the GOP. Thanks, Ann! I am sure that the Moslem lunatics are smiling now! You did their work for them. She should think before she speaks. Jews are under attack all over the world in a variety of ways and she has to come out with her thoughtless statement.

She’s not stupid, of course she knows there are Jewish Republicans. But she made the statement anyway, and will be attacked for it. I hope I’m wrong about connecting her to Republicans and the political right, if I am she’s of no consequence. I didn’t like the faggot remark either, and at the time made the same point, that the political right needs to disassociate from her. She’s a loose cannon, and has the potential to cause embarassment. Fortunately this remark was on a radio show, not at a political gathering.

What she did was very foolish - especially since she apparently rarely goes to church. I think she is a Presbyterian. Watch; Laura Ingraham will foolishly come out to support her. Laura is another one who has become too snarky and smug for her own good. Listen very carefully to her tone of voice when she takes callers with whom she disagrees. She doesn’t argue: she badgers. The tone is terrible.

If not this than another reason. Since they vote 95% lockstep with Palistanian loving Dems there is really nothing to worry about. Kinda like me threatening not to watch The View.
