So I guess the way to set yourself apart during a debate is to spout half-baked protectionism while proclaiming your commitment to free trade. If so, blending in has much to recommend it.

If you are actually interested, Duncan Hunter AND Michael Reagan both address the protectionism comments in this interview.

Well said, fluffdaddy-— in this instance, Michael represents his father about as well as Ron does on every issue. He could use a good dose of President Reagan’s favorite economists: Hazlitt, Hayek, Friedman and, of course, Adam Smith, all of whom recognized trade barriers are inconsistent with the free market.
