Just Stand There While I Die
The D.C. government has that right, and exercises it frequently.
By David Freddoso
The first time someone tried to mug me in Washington D.C., I ran away as he threatened to shoot me from behind.
The second time, when the exact same situation arose, I knew better. I stopped and turned around to confront the robber as soon as he threatened to shoot: “Hey, buddy!” I said confidently. “Who do you think you’re fooling? Guns are outlawed in the District of Columbia — I know you don’t really have one.”
He shot me in the face with a crossbow.
Okay, sorry, I’m just making that part up. What really happened is I ran like hell and got away, both times. Both times, the cops showed up about an hour after I dialed 911.
I have no idea whether either of my muggers actually had a gun — they each chased me from behind, and I was too busy running to ask. But a few years back, my best friend and his brother knew for sure that real guns were being trained on their heads as they were forced for several minutes to lie face-down, just blocks from the Capitol, on the red-brick sidewalk in front of their D.C. rowhouse...

Like they say at the NRA: “911 is government sponsored Dial-A-Prayer.”
In the District of Columbia, if you’re crazy enough to live there, 911 is strictly a prayer...to no one.
The last time DC had a really decent PD was back in the 1970s when Jerry Wilson was the chief. Since then, the DCPD has become a joke...just like the new chief, Kathy Lanier.

Sammy ''The Bull'' Gravano has, by his own admission, sent 19 men to their graves. So it's safe to say that the former underboss of the Gambino crime family knows a thing or two (or 19) about guns and violence. That's why his remarks about gun control, published in Vanity Fair, have resonance.
"Gun Control? It's the best thing you can do for crooks and gangsters. I want you to have nothing. If I'm a bad guy, I'm always gonna have a gun. Safety locks? You pull the trigger with a lock on, and I'll pull the trigger. We'll see who wins." -- VANITY FAIR 9/99 page 165 Sammy the Bull Gavano

Capitol Hill ~ Anacostia is on the other side of the Anacostia River.
Had a friend shot in the gut while in a car waiting to get out on a street in sight of the Capitol Dome.
Guns are, of course, outlawed in DC. Wouldn't wish anyone to get hurt ya' know.(/sarc)

What an excellent example of unintended humor the Districts government is a national leader in standing by while its citizens die. Our homicide rate hit a 20-year low in 2005 just 29 victims per 100,000 residents. That is slightly better than New York Citys rate (30.7) under Mayor David Dinkins in 1990, when the Big Apple suffered 2,250 homicides.
::::::::
More of the blatant stupidity, paranoia, and ignorance of the anit-gun crowd. As well as the incompetence and malfeasance of the local government to GET RID OF CRIMINALS that use guns in crimes. Yet the disarm-law-abiding-America leftists think that ignoring criminals and putting the shaft to lawful citizens ownership of guns is a solution the rational and Constitution-reading public will tolerate.

I heard a voice from behind, “Give me all your money our I’ll blow your brains out.”
I turned around and looked him in the eye, “Fire away,” I said “you can live in NYC without your brains, but not without money!”...

Illegal for DC residents to own guns? Un huh. So when are police going to start going door to door in high crime neighborhoods to confiscate them?

In SE, It starts getting bad less than a mile from Capitol Hill, somewhere around the Eastern Heights Metro station. NE is not so good, either. I wouldn’t walk around many NE neighborhoods in the day, let alone at night. NW is not so bad, and from what I can tell, it is more gentrified than when I lived there 18 years ago. Dupont Circle was hipsterville, now the hipsters can’t afford to live there. Adams Morgan was full of flophouses, and is now full of patent attorneys and lobbyists.

Good one!
Great gun. Lots of stopping power! Just the thing for bad guys!

Actually, it was the imposition of gun control that started the revolution. English soldiers marched to Concord & Lexington to confiscate gun powder and musket balls. This is what caused the “Shot heard ‘round the world”.

Pathetic that the response in D.C. to being attacked by robbers is the advice of a Monty Python skit.
