not to defend NJ but the reason taxes are cheaper in PA is because there is so much more work here in NJ compared to PA . It’s NJ’s location that gives them the excuse for higher taxes. Pay scales are higher here and there are jobs to be had everywhere. I know places where taxes are real low , there is also nothing there either.
That being said this ,state still sucks !

I know a guy that retired to Eastern PA to be near his wife's aging parents. It was a NYC exoburb. There weren't any jobs there other than minimum wage, so he moved back to the Midwest..

I’m from Yonkers, I came to PA 13 years ago because it was cheaper to own a home and luckily my husband has a decent paying job. I would go back to NY in a minuet because that is really my home. I would love to go live in Putnam. But I could never afford a 500K ranch house and 8k taxes. My children are hicks LOL.
