Washington -- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, talking on the eve of the fifth anniversary of the House vote to authorize the Iraq war, acknowledged Tuesday that the failure to end the war is hurting Democrats in Congress and lawmakers will have to take bolder action.
The San Francisco Democrat, in a wide-ranging lunch discussion with reporters, said her party's successes in passing domestic legislation - such as raising the minimum wage and helping make college more affordable - were being overshadowed.
"It is in fact true, though, that the war has eclipsed everything," she said. "While I'm very proud of the ratings that Democrats have on every issue we can name, I don't disagree with the public evaluation that we have not done well in ending this war."
The comments echoed some of the criticisms made by anti-war activists and some lawmakers, who have urged House Democratic leaders to take a more confrontational approach with the White House, by cutting off money for the war.
Pelosi did not signal that Democrats are ready to stop funding the war. But one of her allies, House Appropriations Committee Chairman David Obey, D-Wis., said last week he won't work on President Bush's $190 billion war spending bill unless Bush agrees to withdraw all combat troops by January 2009.

In other words .... defeat at any cost.
I agree. Nancy Pelosi must stop her war on America.
It looks like Cindy has her spooked. We need to keep Cindy viable to cut down Peelousy’s vote.
... who didnt get Gavin Newsoms memo about predominant respect in this city for the military.
There is something about this woman’s eyes that I have seen before. They are identical to a relative’s eyes a couple of years before she was taken by Alzheimer’s. She was in her eighty’s. It’s something about the way the flesh above the eyeballs retracts back into the head, where the brain used to be. That is a very horrible and dehumanizing death, and I pray that even Pelosi doesn’t get this.
LOL . Even Dukakis donned a military helmet .... my , how times have changed ....
Although I think it would be funny to see one of the Dims try the Dukakis stunt ...
“Perhaps Nancy should throw herself in front of a tank.”
The tank deserves better. How about a Caterpillar instead?
I realize they don't understand this, but if you don't WIN a war, then you've LOST the war...

It really says something quite disturbing about the American electorate that this moron has become the Speaker of the House.
“Democrat successes in passing domestic legislation - such as raising the minimum wage and helping make college more affordable ...”
With “successes” like these, the Dim Queen(s) need never fear failure. The minimum wage hike will just push inflation and illegal immigration, and the colleges will gobble up more than double the additional federal aid in one year’s tuition hikes.
Meanwhile, two whole days ago:
“House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Sunday that Congress cannot end the war in Iraq without President Bushs approval.”
Any guesses on what random idea will waft through the chasm between her ears next?
Hey Nancy, I hear the Iraqis calling you and your fellow demorats to “come on over and help shorten the war”. Go for it Nancy. This country will be the better for it.
