National Security: U.S. spy agencies are supposed to gather information so that they might save lives. Whoever in the intelligence community leaked a preview of an al-Qaida video to the media has endangered lives.
SITE Intelligence Group is a small Washington-based firm that has, remarkably, devised ways of monitoring some of the major communications among Islamist terrorists. It sells the information to clients in the private sector, government and the media.
SITE, founded in 2002 by an Iraqi-born Israeli, Rita Katz, whose father was executed by Saddam Hussein in the 1960s, naturally keeps much of its methodology confidential.
Having infiltrated al-Qaida's equivalent of a corporate intranet (dubbed "Obelisk" by U.S. intelligence), SITE came up with quite a find last month — a new video message from Osama bin Laden that was only a few days away from its official Sept. 11 release. Katz alerted the U.S. government with an emphasis that it must be kept secret.

State Dept!!!!
Good timing . How does everyone like that journalist shield law now ?
I don’t care if the person who leaked this came from the State Department, CIA or White House, who ever is responsible must be punished.
In their pursuit of power, the dems are going to get Americans killed. The question is how many. 1,000, 10,000, 1,000,000. Do they care?
hey, anything to help the party.
I hope it is a Democrat who did this but I am not all that sure that is the case.
RELAX, EVERYBODY! Let the pros handle it. Intelligence is just not an area that lends itself to amateur analysis. Just because various sources in the intelligence community are screaming at the top of their lungs (i.e. loud enough to be heard deep in a cave in the mountains on the Afgahn-Pakistani border) “Oh my God! This is awful! We’ve lost access to Al Qaeda’s super-secret communications!” DOESN’T MEAN THEY REALLY HAVE! This is not a business in which people say what they mean and mean what they say. And it would be absolutely disastrous and unthinkable for them to tell us what’s really going on.
“This is not a business in which people say what they mean and mean what they say.”
WHAT?!*&# (see tagline)
This might have been a big deal if the Binny tape
had been real. But it was a fake. Binny is dead.
Nonetheless, this would be a great opportunity for
this Admin to nail someone for leaking.
Who leaked it? My money would be on the lawyer.
The appearance of the leaked video tipped al-Qaida off to SITE's monitoring, and the terrorists promptly shut down the network blinding SITE, as well as the U.S. government, to an important channel for advance warnings of bombings and other secret communications."Techniques that took years to develop are now ineffective and worthless," Katz complained in a statement.
This is dishearteningall the more so because it seems no one ever gets punished for divulging secrets to the press. Vigorous prosecution of those who leak or misuse classified information might have prevented this. (Why isn't Sandy Berger doing time?)
You guys need to read her book “Terrorist Hunter”
It is authored and printed under “Annonymous”...
It is an outstanding story about her and her life from Iraq to NYC and the firm she went to work for that started all of this...
At this time it may not be as big a surprise to some, but it is an eye opener...
We ARE all on the same side, aren't we?
It Must have been a Democrat. No Patriot would do such a thing.
BTW, I believe the description of who she is is a mistake...
She is not an Iraqi-born Israeli...She is an Iraqi born Jew...She only escaped Saddam Hussien and Iraq (which is an amazing story in and of itself, but immigrated to Israel, and got married, kids and moved to NYC (America) years after that...
The more you understand her story, the more you’ll appreciate and give credit to her firm and information they provide in the defense of this country!
