he 20-year-old man wanted in connection with the killing of a University of North Texas sophomore has been arrested in Mexico, Carrollton police said Tuesday.
Ernesto Reyes was named as a suspect a day after Melanie Goodwin, 19, was found dead in Carrollton about 11:30 a.m. Sept. 25.
Police said Goodwin, of Arlington, was last seen talking to Reyes at a Denton gas station about nine hours earlier. A clerk said he asked her for a ride, according to police. The two didn't know each other, police said.
U.S. marshals and Mexican authorities arrested Reyes about 1 p.m. today as he left a family member's home in a town about four hours northeast of Mexico City, police said.
Carrollton police have scheduled a media briefing at 4:30 p.

He was a stranger and she gave him a ride? Either she was really dumb (hate to say anything against the dead) or he forced her. He’s been found in Mexico after leaving a family member’s home, so either he was an illegal or an anchor baby. Either way, he shouldn’t have been in the country. If ICE had done their job, Melaine would be alive today.
Mexico would not agree to extradition without some sort of commitment fm the authorities here.
Though mexico is not known for extraditing Capital Murder suspects to Texas.
I don’t think he forced her for a ride(per all reports/camera evidence), but I’d prefer to think of her as naive, rather than dumb. And he was a legal resident with a history of criminal offenses that the authorities deemed not sufficient to send him back to Mexico.
I think you’re right about an arrangement regarding his punishment. Damn shame, if anyone deserves capital punishment it’s this one.
It would be a shame if they had to use deadly force should an escape attempt be made during transport back to Texas.
Very sad.Now we get to feed and house him for 20 years.Hey Texas can you move this dirtbag to the front of the line?
Is he a member of MS-13 of some other gang?
He burnt her body...thats what the gangs do...
Unfortunately we have an anti-American admin supporting a murdering illegal in another Texas case, so this scumball will probably have some deal not to execute him
There should be no mitigation of punishment for any illegal alien. If Mexico doesnt like our death penalty, stop sending their people here
There been no discussion of gang affiliation. I think he was just trying to destroy evidence. Little did he know he was caught on camera at the conv store—inside and outside talking to the victim.
Ping!
If you want on, or off this S. Texas/Mexico ping list, please FReepMail me.
It has been found that hitherto sensible people are being suborned by the Anti-racist, multicultural crowd. It follows that one must "be nice" to minorities. These persons then hesitate to just say- "look, I don't know you" and go on their way. They do not want to seem to discriminate. Discrimination now a dirty word, previously a means of choosing one's companions.
