Thanks for the post, GWB. Dave Kopel has more integrity in his little finger than most politicians have in their entire bodies, and I salute him for an honest appraisal of Dr. Paul’s campaign. NR’s readers will have to swallow hard, but that’s life.

Also a good point on how RP is more similar to Reagan in running on positive ideas, as compared to the more negative tone of the failed Buchanan campaigns which sounded some of the same themes.

Thanks for an interesting post and more than that, some interesting commentary explaining the post. You could serve as a model for good posting.

May I observe that the graceless posters on all Cong. Paul threads seem to be running out of steam if not vitriol. Perhaps sheer hate consumes itself?

You're too kind. I do a bit of mudslinging myself from time to time. And I'm sure the Paul-haters still have some vinegar left in them.

The problem with trashy candidate threads is that it hurts our forum. So many people just troll away for the sake of trolling and one-upping each other. I'm tough in opposing the leftwing mayor (it's genetic for us RP supporters) but we do stick with his record.

SS, Medicare, every single entitlement program that the idiots in Congress ever created, are not as big a threat to our nation as the mindset of appeasement that Dr. Paul puts forth.

That is a good observation well made. However, looking from a different persspective, one could make the argument that the mindset that gave us "SS, Medicare, every single entitlement program" is the same mindset that has us embroled in a foreign policy disaster. Note, the war goes well but foreign policy is not what one would wish. Perhaps the original poster was attempting the bring out this subtle but important view.

His supporters span a broad ideological spectrum

They run the gamut all the way from LIHOP to MIHOP, and back again.

You equated the young adults' support of Paul with that of McGovern. It's a specious comparison.

There are some rags and turpentine in the corner over there.

Hey, at least I work hard and know where they are. Which means I don't do feminine-oriented work like you do.

“... is the same mind set that has us embroiled in a foreign policy disaster. Note, the war goes well but foreign policy is not what one would wish.”

When is it EVER as one would wish?

Which disaster? There are so many to choose from! And the MSM would NEVER allow the rest of the world to know that any policy of a Republican President would be known as a success.

Are you talking about the war in Iraq? I do not like war, but whether you want to or not, sometimes you have got to fight. We are FINALLY engaged with an enemy that has been at war with US since the Carter administration. It was the cowardly acts of previous presidents (including Ronald Reagan!) who have emboldened the Luddite 6th century fanatics that war against the west. All the previous administrations want NOT to rock the boat and stir things up, especially the impeached piece of crap Clinton. He was willing to purposely ignore the DEATHS of US and foreign nationals in attacks on US military assets (USS Cole) and the US embassy’s (Tanzania & Kenya) when they had ABSOLUTE PROOF POSITIVE of who was involved and which government was acting as a base of support.

Think Iraq was a mistake? I do not. Want some weapons of mass destruction? We found the evidence in not only Iraq but ALSO in Libya where NO ONE was looking! Why? Because we and the rest of the world was not looking for them there. General Gadhafi coughed up the nuke materials because HE thought he was next on the Bush list of terrorists. The major reason that there is a world perception of the invasion of Iraq as a foreign policy failure is because the media and the foreign governments that have a vested interests in the failure of a strong US are creating that image. You think the Russians want a strong US in this world? You cannot imagine how many changes of diapers the mullahs in Tehran had to make when they found how easy it was for Israel to strike DEEP into Syria and knock out a secure facility, defended by the “best” system the Russians sold them!

We live in a world that is interconnected on almost every conceivable level. The way to protect yourself is to be strong and forceful, not willing to close your eyes to the rabid dog that is fundamental islam, wandering about just outside the fence of your yard.

Look, Dr. Paul has some points on which I agree. BUT those points are overshadowed by his COLLOSSAL ignorance of the rest of the real threats that face our nation and civilization as a whole.

Stop drinking the Kool-aid

The poll was held by the Oregon Republican Leadership Council How many people participated in it is irrelevant. The fact is that registered Republicans in the state happened to favor Dr. Paul over the other bland, status-quo candidates.

Ron Paul does not advocate a ‘liberal’ foreign policy.

Shows your complete ignorance of history. Ron Paul position, as currently stated by him, would of been opposed to the Foreign Policy of Reagan and his engagements of our foes in the Caribbean, Afghanistan, Central America and Europe. Are you claiming Reagan was a liberal?

Shows your complete ignorance of history.

Let's talk about it Johnnie boy. Paul supported all of Reagan's defense and military spending when he was in Congress in the late 70s and early 80s.

Ron Paul position, as currently stated by him, would of been opposed to the Foreign Policy of Reagan and his engagements of our foes in the Caribbean, Afghanistan, Central America and Europe. Are you claiming Reagan was a liberal?

Paul didn't take any position on Reagan's foreign policy. He didn't oppose Reagan's invasion of Grenada or his fight against the Soviets in the Cold War.

Thanks for playing.

I see. Don’t bother the Paulbots with the facts. They have their dogma and they are sticking to it.

Mr. Organized Thinking and Mr. Brevity are nice guys, you shoud meet them sometime. I made it through two sentences and my head started to spin, lol. Seriously, the only point you could comment on was the the cart and the horse, policy and war. That was not to be found and I couldn't follow where you were going going. Points for passion, though.

You keep posting this and I don't think anyone has answered. That's because it's kind of a dumb question.

Oh no it was answered. Multiple times. By myself and traviskicks I know of at least. On multiple threads. The problem is he can't argue positions so he keeps posting that to get a hoo-rah from detractors of the only Constitutional candidate running. Then he can post later in the thread 'see, see I knew no one could answer my 'thoughtful, seeking' question'. It's circular and childish to continue to do it but hey look at who it is...sorry wrong syntax, but HEY look WHO IT is...

And no I'm not going to bother looking through my posts to find where I answered it (which I did). It's enough that I know I did and if anyone cares enough, they can look it up themselves.

“I would think that these young “Paulinistas” ARE concerned about the future and OVERLY ROMANTIC in their zeal for Dr. Paul. They are WILLING to OVERLOOK the empty headedness of Dr. Paul and his simplistic views of America,...”

It is exactly the correct comparison.
Those young McGovernintes who sincerely wanted peace during the Vietnam war, WILLINGLY OVERLOOKED the evil nature of communism and sought peace at ANY cost. The final cost was a bloodbath throughout Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.

It is good to know that you are a “hard workin’ man!” Good for you! I applaud your fortitude and hope you receive all the fruits of you labors.

By the way, what is “femmine-oriented work”? Does that mean like selling purses?

Ha! Triple E, you break me up!

I apologize that my thoughts were not as organized and brief as you would have liked. I do occasionally get worked up and run on. Its a pity you could only get through two sentences before my comments induced vertigo. Sorry you couldn’t follow where I was “going going”.

Why do you think Paul is getting the support he is? Most Americans oppose a long-term commitment in the Middle East. The war has not been fought as decisively as it should by the administration. The administration largely stood by and let our troops get smeared by Democrat lies, the UN, the media, and international liberals who want to dictate our foreign policy.

Look, Defense Secretary Gates wants another $190 billion for continued operations. Where do you think the money is coming from? Young adults see this and realize that they're the ones who are going to be footing the bill. Wars cost money, especially ones in which we remain in a volitale region that has been at war since biblical times. Just because they oppose the war doesn't make them part of the anti-war kook nut brigade.

Now I don't want to see our troops come home immediately but then again keeping permanent bases in the Middle East is completely out of the question. It's unfortunate that Paul can't compromise and push for a gradual withdrawal instead of flicking the light switch, but you still need to realize that Paul still supports a strong national defense and border security. At a minimum he'd be better a much better Commander-in-Chief than all of the Dummycrats.

Apropos of not much at all...

A Montana cowboy was overseeing his herd in a mountainous pasture when
suddenly a brand-new BMW races out of a cloud of dust towards him. The
driver, a man in a Brioni suit, Gucci shoes, Ray Ban sunglasses and YSL
tie, leans out the window and asks the cowboy, “If I tell you exactly how
many cows and calves you have in your herd, will you give me a calf?”

The cowboy looks at the man, obviously a yuppie, then looks at his
peacefully grazing herd and calmly answers, “Sure, Why not?” The yuppie
parks his car, whips out his Dell notebook computer, connects it to his
Cingular RAZR V3 cell phone, and surfs to a NASA page on the Internet,
where he calls up a GPS satellite navigation system to get an exact fix
on his location which he then feeds to another satellite that scans the
area in an ultra-high-resolution photo. He then opens the digital photo
in Adobe Photoshop and exports it to an image processing facility in
Hamburg, Germany. Within seconds, he receives an email on his Palm Pilot
that the image has been processed and the data stored. He then accesses
an MS-SQL database through an ODBC connected Excel spreadsheet with email
on his Blackberry and, after a few minutes, receives a response. Finally,
he prints out a full-color, 32-page report on his hi-tech, miniature
LaserJet printer and finally turns to the cowboy and says, “You have
exactly 1,586 cows and calves.”

“That’s right. Well, I guess you can take one of my calves,” says the
cowboy. He watches the man select one of the animals and looks on amused
as the man struggles to stuff it into the trunk of his car. Then the
cowboy says to the man, “Hey, if I can tell you exactly what your
business is, will you give it back?” The man thinks about it for a second
and then says, “Okay, why not?”

“You’re a U.S. Congressman,” says the cowboy. “Wow! That’s correct, “says
the yuppie, “but how did you guess?”

“No guessing required.” answered the cowboy. “You showed up here even
though nobody called you, you want to get paid for a worthless answer I
already knew to a question I never asked. You used $10,000 worth of
technology and wasted a pile of paper on a report nobody will ever read.
You tried to show me how much smarter than me you are, and you don’t know
a thing about cows ... this is a herd of sheep. Now give me back my dog.”
